Meadow Drive Messenger
September 2018
Welcome Back!
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I hope you all had a restful and happy summer! The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4th.
In our effort to remain a “green” school, written communications will be through School Messenger via email again this year. Please be sure that we have an updated email address. In conjunction with our PTA, I will be sending a monthly newsletter as well. Report cards, progress reports, and NWEA scores will be on the Parent Portal.

Traffic Safety
Students who are arriving at school who are not on a bus enter through the Flag Pole Door.
Parents must park in legal parking spots if they choose to walk their children to the door. Our Greeter will be at the door to welcome them each day beginning at 8:00 a.m. After 8:17 a.m., please proceed to the main entrance to sign your child in late.
Pre-K parents must also park in a legal spot and walk their child to the pre-k entrance when dropping off or picking up. Please do not “double-park” or block the parking lot in front of the school.
The school buses drop the students at the cafeteria door and I am requesting that they turn left onto Meadow Drive to avoid the cars in front of the building. Our small buses will continue to drop off at the main entrance.
Below is a neighborhood map "suggesting" that you drive in from I.U. Willets, turn right on Lea Place, left on Hilltop Place, left on Hillvale Road and then left onto Meadow Drive. When leaving the school area, please drive south on Meadow Drive.
In addition, please do not park in driveways or “double-park” on Meadow Drive.
An officer from the 3rd Precinct will be posted here at Meadow Drive in the mornings to enforce traffic safety during the first weeks of school.
I am hoping that we can all work together to ensure the safety of our kids during arrivals!!!

Summer Reading
Thanks to all incoming first and second graders who have participated in this Scholastic's "Magical Summer of Reading." If you haven't logged minutes for your child, it is still easy to do and there is still time! The Scholastic site closes at 3pm on Sept. 7th so please log in and update your child's site ASAP. You can choose the weeks of summer from a drop down menu on the site so that your child can still earn online badges. Remember, our school goal is 250,000 minutes read to win a magical assembly and each student's individual goal is 600 minutes read to earn a personal summer reading medal.
If you need help logging on to www.scholastic.com/summer and signing your child in USING CLEVER, please contact summer reading co-chairpersons Danielle Kuhn or Alecia Whitaker Pace at meadowdrpta@gmail.com.

Scholastic Book Fair Volunteers
Our Fall Book Fair is the second week of school. Usually we ask for volunteers at the first PTA meeting or collect the volunteer forms sent home in your summer packets, but with our book fair being so early in the school year, we need to ask for volunteers now. If you are able to welcome student shoppers, help them see how far their money goes, arrange books between classes, or run a cash register, please contact chairpersons Jamie Loehner at wildfire623@optonline.net or Cindy Zameryka at cindy.zameryka@gmail.com at your earliest convenience!
Remember, PTA volunteers need to be PTA members (so please sign up!) and we must add all volunteers to a list we give the front office in adherence with new district safety procedures.
Welcome Back Picnic
Please join us on Saturday, September 15 from 1-3pm for a Welcome Back picnic. We will have a DJ, bounce house, burgers, ices, Snifty-grams, mini-calendars, and one last chance to shop at our Fall Book Fair. This is a great chance to get to know your child's new friends as well as socialize with several teachers and staff. All are welcome!
Enter through the gate to the playground on Willow Place.
