February Newsletter

Holy Name of Mary Catholic School

February Greetings

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Welcome to our second digital newsletter of 2019! We hope it will help keep you updated on the latest Holy Name of Mary news and provide you with all you need to know for the month ahead.

Mother Nature has given us a blustery start to the year, with LOTS of snow days and bus cancellations! Rather than grumble about the weather, we plan to make the best of the rest of the winter season with plenty of great winter activities throughout the month.

Here's to a fantastic February!

Skating Program

Our weekly skating program begins this week! All students are required to wear hockey helmets at the rink (no bicycle or ski helmets, please!). Grade 1-8 students will be bussed to the rink with their classes every Thursday. Kindergarten students will skate on Tuesday afternoons.

Please note: An extra week of skating has been added (Tuesday, March 19th for Kindergarten and Thursday, March 21st for grades 1-8) to make up for any missed skating sessions this week.

We appreciate all of the payments parents have made to help cover the cost of bussing. If you have not yet paid for skating, please contact Mrs. Lenouvel at the school.

We have many used pairs of skates at the school in a variety of small sizes for anyone who needs them. Please call the school or ask one of our secretaries if you need skates for your child. Parents and grandparents, please remember that all volunteers must have a valid Vulnerable Sector Police Check.

Our Carleton Place Canadians' annual "School Day" at the rink is fast approaching. As with previous years, the local school with the highest percentage of attendance to their Carleton Place Canadians Jr A game at the Carleton Place arena will win $500 compliments of MacKay Roofing.

Co-Captains Cade Townend and Ben Tupker, along with a few of the players, will be dropping in to Holy Name of Mary on Monday Feb 25th at 10:00am to hand out game vouchers and to meet a few of the kids.

Holy Name of Mary's game will be held on Sunday March 3, 2019 at 3:00pm at the Carleton Place arena. The children simply have to present the "Admit One Child" voucher at the ticket table to access the game. We encourage the children to wear team or school colours and be ready to CHEER LOUDLY!!! The players love it - the louder the better!

Parenting matters!

Celebrate your family this month by spending some extra time together. Enjoy some winter activities outside - build a snowman, or maybe go sledding or skating. If the weather isn’t cooperating, why not play a board game, or make a craft? It doesn’t matter what you choose to do, as long as you are doing something you enjoy together. Strong relationships make family life more fun! For more ideas, visit www.triplep-parenting.ca . To register for a local Triple P Parenting session, visit http://healthunit.org/clinics-classes/triple-p-parenting/ or call locally 1-800-660-5853.

Immunization Notices

Being fully immunized protects students from many diseases easily spread in schools! Students who are missing information or didn’t get their immunizations according to the schedule will receive an Immunization Notice. If your child’s immunizations are not up to date and you do not send the Health Unit the required information they may be suspended from school, as early as February. For more information on how to update your child’s record please visit http://healthunit.org/health-information/immunization/school-requirements/ or call 1-800-660-5853 and ask to speak to someone on the immunization team!
