What's Buzzing at the Heights
Week 36: May 23-27, 2022
Message from the Principal
Dear Hornet Families,
Welcome to Week 36 of school!
We are 167 days SMARTER!
We have only 8 days left of school! Let's make every day count!
We finalized al STAAR testing for the year! Thank you for your continued support! We are very PROUD of all of our scholars as they came in and performed to the BEST of their abilities! They did an AMAZING job of showing their work, reading and re-reading and taking their time! Our scores will be in this week and next week. We will include a section on how to retrieve your child's scores from TEA.
This week, we begin with our Awards Ceremonies. It will be a great time to honor and celebrate our scholars for a JOB WELL DONE! We are most appreciative of all your support. Please read the section on the tips for making our celebrations a success for all.
I am asking each parent to please work with their children and talk about following rules and ending the year on a good note. Unfortunately, we have seen a rise in our discipline cases. We know that we have wonderful scholars. We just all need to remind them to make good choices. PLEASE help us in holding a conversation with them. We know we can all FINISH STRONG!
We will continue to meet with families in Loss of Credit due to excessive absences. We will schedule parents to come in and all work together to ensure your child can regain credit through tutoring hours. Please collect notes for every absence your child has had that have not been submitted to our attendance clerks. Currently, we have 140 scholars in Loss of Credit and 14 in danger of losing credit for the year. Let's work together to keep our scholars healthy and in attendance.
Lost and Found.
Please visit the Lost and Found Box in the cafeteria to find any items that belong to you. These items will be donated to charity on June 2, 2022.
Pedestrian Traffic.
We all need to work together to ensure the safety of our children and employees. The cones are placed in areas that are OFF LIMITS. Please honor the safety parameters we have in place to protect everyone. Please do NOT use your cell phones when in the school area to help protect all.
No Drop-Off or Pick Up in Parking Lot.
This is a gentle reminder that the parking lot in NOT a LOCATION to DROP OFF scholars in the morning. We have barrels and cones indicating: do not enter. We offer a curbside drop-off and pick up which is the most efficient and safe way to drop off and pick up children.
Water Bottles.
We are out of cups. Please ensure your children bring a water bottle to school daily. Our water fountains are still closed. They can refill water bottles. Please be sure as you prepare backpacks to ensure ALL scholars have a water bottle. We need your support!
Birthday Snacks.
We ask parents to please refrain from brining in cupcakes. If you would like for your child to share a treat, it must be a treat individually packaged by the manufacturer. We can't accept any cupcakes as someone would have to pass them out. We are here to answer questions. Call or email Ms. Hansen and we can help to clarify. We appreciate you!
Masks.
We are still in a pandemic and I do ask that you make the choice that is best for you and your family. We will still offer masks daily as we want to keep everyone as safe as possible. We hope that you will continue to support our efforts to keep our children, teachers and team safe. We are in GREEN Zone and will encourage everyone on campus to wear a mask at all times.
Attendance.
Now that we have been in school for 167 days, we are making contact with families that have 5 or more absences. It is vital that scholars do not miss more than 17 days in a school year. At absence 18, scholars are in Loss of Credit. We currently have 140 scholars with loss of credit. We have another 14 scholars in danger of loss of credit. I strongly urge you to send in all doctor's notes to excuse an absence and avoid Truancy Court.
Picking Up Students.
Many families are starting to park TOO EARLY for dismissal. PLEASE, DO NOT ARRIVE & PARK until after 1:30 PM. Due to traffic, we will not be able to release students after 1:30 PM. If you have a doctor's appointment, please pick them up before 1:30 PM so that you can make your appointment.
Safety.
The building will be cleaned throughout the day in high traffic areas to ensure safety. We will have hand sanitizing stations at all classrooms, restrooms, cafeteria and playground. If you wish for your child to wear a mask, please send them with a mask that fits them comfortably. If you requested a shield for your child's desk, they will have access to a shield. We will all monitor and collaborate to keep our team and families safe!
If at any time you have a concern or question, do not hesitate to email us or call us. We are here to help and ensure we all collaborate together.
Thank you for your continued support! We are blessed with an amazing learning community! Together, we are better!
Respectfully,
Jenifer Hansen
