Phonics & Sight Words
This week we finished up our suffix -s unit, and we are now learning new glued sounds! We have reviewed the -ng glued sounds (/ang/, /ong/, /ung/, /ing/). Example words that have -ng glued sounds include: "fang", "song", "lung", and "sing". Students have learned that in order to "tap out" a glued sound, they tap once for the first sound and then one more time for the glued sound, even if it has more than one letter. For example, a student would say /f/... /ang/ to sound out the word "fang".
Next week, we will continue to review these glued sounds and introduce the -nk glued sounds (/ank/, /ink/, /onk/, /unk). Feel free to start reviewing words that have these glued sounds with your students! Remember to remind them that they only tap once if they hear a glued sound.
