Principal's Message
Greetings Sunny Heights Families,
We have officially surpassed 30 days of instruction here at Sunny Heights already this year! I continue to be impressed with the showing of CORE by students and staff each and every day. Most students have now completed the first round of NWEA testing. I am very excited to begin reviewing and analyzing student data in order to plan supports and drive instruction to foster ALL students growth.
Information about Parent Teacher Conferences and other parent information events will be coming in the next couple of weeks. Be on the look out for those communications. It is more important than ever that the voice of our parents is heard in order to support our students.
As always, do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything.
Thank you for all that you do!
Your proud principal,
Bart Lewis
Request to Change - FINAL NOTICE
The request window opens on Friday, September 11 and closes on Monday, September 21 at 3 p.m. No request will be accepted after the window closes.
Families who wish to request a change should submit one form per child. *If families have a student in another building, they will receive a Learning Option Change Request form and information directly from each student’s school.
This form should only be completed by those who want to change their learning option. *If you do not want to change your current learning option, please do not fill out the form.
A valid parent or caregiver email address is required to submit a Learning Option Change Request form. This email address will be used to send a request confirmation and other important information. Please check and double check that the correct email is entered and be sure to check your inbox daily. (***This should not be a student email or an @warren.k12.in.us).
Please note: At the beginning of the school year, students in grades K-8 were asked to make a 9-week commitment to their chosen learning option. Grades 9-12 were asked to make an 18-week commitment and therefore will receive learning option change request information at a later time.

ALL STUDENTS - ATTENDANCE
For the 2020-2021 school year, Warren Township has transitioned to a new student information system called Synergy allowing our parents and caregivers to have improved access to school information through the parent portal called ParentVUE. We are aware that at this time some students’ attendance records are reflecting students are absent, when in fact they were present. This is mostly the case for our students who are attending school VIRTUALLY on application days or in the VIRTUAL opinion full-time. We want to assure you that teachers are keeping accurate attendance records and that we are working to correct attendance records for all our students.
VIRTUAL STUDENTS
Virtual Attendance Starting Monday, September 21full time VIRTUAL K-12 students and ALTERNATING DAY 6-12 students will be required to mark their own attendance in Canvas on days they are not in their school building. Staying active and engaged in each Canvas course is critical for learning and success both short term and long term. Schools and teachers will communicate additional information including sharing tutorials that detail the simple process students will take to mark themselves present for each class period. If you have any questions, please reach out.
Using Canvas for attendance:
****Instead of teachers taking attendance, the following will now occur:
Students (families) will sign into CANVAS and click their class and then hit the attendance verification.
The teacher will log into Synergy and submit the attendance for that day.
The following morning, building secretaries will get an email of students who did not indicate their attendance for the previous day.
The building secretary will go in and mark the student absent for the previous day.
THIS WILL GO LIVE ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2020!
In the long run, we are trying to make the attendance process more streamlined. Once this becomes a routine, it should help simplify the attendance process for everyone.
Other districts that have made this transition noted and they have indicated that this takes about 10 days and then the process is pretty smooth.

Immunization Reminder - Clinic News
In order for our schools to be in compliance with the state laws regarding immunizations, please make sure that your student(s) have their updated information on file with your school's nursing staff. All student vaccines must be on file and up to date by September 21, 2020 to avoid exclusion. Please make your school's nursing staff aware of any upcoming appointments for vaccines, or if there are any medical or religious objections to your student receiving his or her vaccines.
We would like to welcome our new school nurse, Amber Eyerman to Sunny Heights Elementary. We are very excited to have her join our Sunny Heights and Warren Team!
PLEASE inform your school's nurse of any chronic health conditions that the school should be made aware of, and that your student's medical emergency information is up to date.
