Solar Panel Installation to Begin!

During the Spring Break, the first phase of the solar panel installation to our school roof will begin. Phase One includes lifting the materials to the roof, so you may see a crane around our building next week. After that, work will begin on the roof to install the panels. The work will not interfere with instruction. If you have any questions, please let me know.

June Date Change for Middle School Students

All Students Will Be in Attendance on June 11, 2019

There is a city-wide Department of Education Clerical Day for NYC schools on June 11, 2019 that we have switched for June 24. WJPS students will come to school on Tuesday, June 11, but not on Monday, June 24, 2019. Please mark your calendars accordingly.

Reserve A Spot at the PTA's Middle School GLOW Dance!

We are asking that students reserve a spot for the May 3 Middle School Glow Dance. The dance is from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

PTA Meeting, May 7, 2019

PTA Elections are May 7, 2019

The WJPS PTA will be holding elections on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:00 pm. The PTA needs a few volunteers to help out as the Nominating Committee. If you are able to volunteer, please send an email to wjpspta@gmail.com. At the bottom of this newsletter is information on how to nominate yourself or someone else for a position.


All PTA positions are held for a one-year term, from July 1 to June 30; this means each position is up for election at the end of every school year.


Please consider running for a position on the WJPS PTA for the 2019-2020 school year. If you are interested in running, you can send in the attached nomination form to school, or be present at the meeting and be nominated from the floor.


Elections will be at the May 7, 2019 PTA Meeting. Following is a description of each position.


President - Guides the Executive Board as well as presides over all meetings of the General Membership and the Executive Board. This is a core position on the PTA. The President (or designee) represents the school at district and citywide functions as needed. The PTA president is automatically a core member of the SLT.


Recording Secretary - Records all minutes of Executive and General PTA meetings, and disseminates them at meetings. This is a core position on the PTA.


Treasurer - Responsible for maintaining the financial affairs of the PTA (works with the Financial Secretary who is appointed by the President with approval from the Executive Board). This is a core position on the PTA.


Vice President - Shall assist the President and shall assume the President's duties in his/her absence or at the president's request.


Corresponding Secretary - Shall be Responsible for preparing all flyers and notices needed by the PTA and sending out any necessary correspondence.

Two Vacancies on the SLT for Next Year

There are two positions open on the SLT for next year. The SLT meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:15 pm. Please see attached for more information.


SLT Elections will be held on May 7, 2019 during the PTA Meeting at 7:00 pm. If you are interested in running, you can send in the attached nomination form to school, or be present at the meeting and be nominated from the floor.


School leadership teams are teams of parents, teachers, administrators, and students who are responsible for setting the educational direction of a school. Leadership teams develop a school's Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP). Your participation will ensure that the parent voice is represented in important decisions that will impact teaching and learning in our school.
