The Burris Buzz
1st Grade News from Ms. Burris
Our Week in Review
This week, we learned about retelling a story using the Reading Rope. We also learned to add using three numbers and Friends of Ten. Finally, we learned all about the seasons, with a focus on Fall. Friday was a great day with Apple Day, Football Friday and special snack, and erupting apples!
MVP Student of the Week
Ryan was our Student of the Week and Teacher Helper. Some fun facts about Ryan is that he plays in a challenge league for baseball, won a triathlon, and can do 75 jump ropes in a row.
Apple tasting
On Apple Day, we taste tested a variety of apples and graphed our favorites. Red Delicious was the most favorite in our classroom.
Apple Day Wixie
Students used the Wixie App to create their own nonfiction texts about apples.
A Look Ahead
In Science, we are going to become Geologists and begin our study of rocks. Each student will need to bring a fist sized rock on Friday to create their Pet Rock. The following week, we will begin learning about various types of rocks and the students will need to bring 5 rocks each to examine. In Math, we will focus on turn around facts with addition. In reading, we will focus on Stamina and decoding strategies.
