Georgia Milestones....Over and Out!
Parents,
Georgia Milestones testing for this school year is officially over! The 3rd-5th grade students did a fantastic job with their testing and our PreK-2nd grade students were awesome as they made sure to keep their hallway transitions as quiet as possible. Thanks to all of you for ensuring that your children were at at school on time so that we could keep our testing days as efficient as possible.
We will let you all know the results for your child as we start to receive them from the testing center. Keep in mind that we only tested our 3rd-5th grade students and that 3rd and 4th grade only took ELA and Math. Our 5th graders took ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Please contact me if you have any questions and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Robert Clayton

HMS Academic Bowl Team Needs Help!
The HMS Academic Bowl Team is one of only 141 teams nationwide to earn a spot at the National Tournament in May. Our HMS team is the only non-magnet public school in DeKalb County School District to qualify. Please donate to help defray the costs of getting everyone to Nationals in Dallas. This Cinderella Underdog team could use some HMS support! For details and to donate, please visit https://www.youcaring.com/hendersonmiddleschoolacademicbowlteama-776753

DCSD Superintendent Joins Leadership Atlanta Class of 2018
Dr. R. Stephen Green, superintendent/CEO of the DeKalb County School District, has been selected as just one of 86 community leaders that will participate in Leadership Atlanta’s Class of 2018.
Leadership Atlanta is one of the oldest sustained community leadership programs in the nation, and its participants have a unified commitment to move Atlanta forward by delving deeply into the city’s issues. In addition to Dr. Green’s background in public education, this new class hails from diverse industries such as law, corporate, religious, nonprofit, technology, media, healthcare, politics and government.
“I am truly honored to have been selected to this prestigious leadership organization. I am looking forward to the opportunities to learn, collaborate, inspire, and be inspired,” said Green.
According to Leadership Atlanta, the class will learn more about the region during the nine-month program. It will participate in retreats, full-day seminars, service projects, discussion groups and community tours, and other activities.
There will also be opportunities for personal growth through self-examination with the goal of being more effective leaders and building relationships based on trust and mutual understanding.
