Tune in to Proactivity
Happy Monday everyone!
I hope the weekend treated you well and I sure hope you’re ready to address the third topic of the month: PROACTIVITY! Considering the New Year upon us, let's seize this opportunity to chat about the steps we can make for good health in 2017 and beyond. I’m talking about taking the initiative, developing a plan and playing Bon Jovi's “It’s My Life” over and over again in prep for action. It’s now or never!
Oftentimes, January 1 arrives and we react to the decisions we've made rather than charging forward with purpose. Cue those quick-fix diets, intense boot camps, obsessive calorie counting apps...the list goes on! Then suddenly it’s mid-January, the quick fix diet didn’t work, the boot camp was painful, the desire for immediate gratification was unfulfilled and the focus on nutrition and fitness has faded. In come feelings of defeat and disappointment, just two of the various consequential emotions of reactivity.
Here’s the skinny on reactive action when it comes to your health. It’s a nice little temporary band-aid that lacks intention and ultimately causes frustration. I say this with confidence because I have experienced the letdown of reacting versus proactively planning. Personal resolutions that have been declared from my mouth have failed because I was too lazy to plan, yet too eager to see results.
I welcome the concept of proactivity with open arms, and I’m currently preparing for my healthy lifestyle to continue come the New Year; not commence. That would be my goal for all of you: to get into a rhythm that works for you and that you wish to grow upon and improve. Consequently, you will end and begin each year feeling confident and energetic! If you need a good support system or some insightful guidance, seek it out! Work with a nutritionist, read a few books on clean eating, get to know the concept of balance, find your favorite workout and design your healthy lifestyle!
One of the most encouraging and motivating tools that I depend on for sustaining and growing my personal wellness regimen is music. As many of you know, music constantly pours into our home, and it has ever since I was a child. To this day, my dad continues to serve as our Chief Audio Officer at all family gatherings, and I like to consider myself blessed with his passion for music and a fraction of his musical compilation skills. I truly don’t know what I would do without the good music that fills my life and that speaks to me in so many meaningful ways.
If this idea peaks your interest, here are a few tracks (see Spotify links below) that I turn up when conquering a new fitness goal, learning a recipe or finding my way back when I've fallen off track. It may seem cheesy, but I link a song to almost every event or goal I have—and it truly helps! It’s not magic, but it is magical!
So in the words of Bon Jovi, let’s live while we’re alive!
In good health and much gratitude,
Meg
