Emergency Aid for Children
They need different care. You should be aware.
Adult VS infant CPR
With Adults and Children:
You deliver 30 compressions and two rescue breaths pushing in about 2 inches on the compression. Deliver compressions at 100 beats per minute
With Infants:
Everything is the same except you only compress to 1-1 1/2 inches during compressions
You can't use a regular AED on a child!
Shock! It can be real.
Since children are small, shock can effect them worse. Watch closely after trauma for symptoms and treat them carefully. Symptoms include:
- irregular heartbeat
- confusion
- cool, clammy skin
- rapid breathing
- lightheadedness
Seizures Happen
If someone has a seizure what do you do?
DO NOT hold or restrain the child or infant
DO NOT place anything between the teeth or in the mouth
DO call 911
DO remove all objects around the seizure victim
