Message from the Principal
Strong communication between parents and teachers is vital for students to succeed. Parent/Teacher conferences are starting next week. Please be sure to sign up for a conference time. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child's progress and discover how you can best support your child's learning at home. If you prefer to have a translator at the conference, please let your child's teacher know. If you have specific concerns or questions, it would be helpful to email your child's teacher in advance.
Students will be dismissed early during parent/teacher conferences. From November 7th to November 9th and November 14th to November 18th, 1st through 5th-grade students will be dismissed at 1:15 pm. Students in Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten will be dismissed at 1:05 pm. Students attending Extended Care will be picked up at these earlier dismissal times. If your child attends a different after-school care program, please let them know about the earlier dismissal times during parent/teacher conference days.
November 10th is a USD Professional Development Day. There is no school for students on that day. There is also no school on November 11th because it is Veteran's Day.
Please contact our office team if you have any questions.
Mary Katayama,
Principal

Project Cornerstone - November Book
Next month the ABC volunteers will be reading the book René Has Two Last Names by René Colato Laínez. The author tells the story of René, who moves from El Salvador to the United States. René has two last names which represent his mother and father’s families. His classmates make fun of him for having a long last name.
When we learn about other cultures it creates an understanding of others. When we explain our culture to others it promotes understanding of our differences. To learn more about this lesson and discuss this story with your child use the Rene has Two Names slides.
