Student Injuries
When a student has an injury that requires activity restrictions, a doctor’s note must be sent to the Health Office on the 1st day that your child returns to school. This includes any student with a supportive device like a splint, cast or crutches. Usually these student have restrictions such as no gym or recess for a period of time. Until specific doctor’s instructions are received, any student with a supportive device will not be permitted to participate in gym or recess. When a student’s restrictions are lifted by the Health Care Provider, a medical clearance note from the provider must be given to the School Nurse.
If a student requires a non-medical exclusion from participation in gym class, a parent note is required. Any gym exclusion for more than 1 day requires a doctor’s note.

Restaurant Night
Please save the date, October 12th, for PTO's next restaurant night of the year at Freddy's. A portion of the proceeds between 4:00 and 8:00 pm will go to our WTE PTO to support our students.
PTBoard
The WTE PTO is very excited to share a NEW way to stay in the know on all things WTE! We're now using PTBoard in place of Membership Toolkit and it will help to keep our member's information private and secure. Please see the attached flyer for information on signing up for the PTBoard.
A Note from Mrs.Griffin...
Hello WTE families! Ever wonder what your child is creating in art class? Sometimes art projects are unable to go home right away. Check out @Mrs.Griffins_artroom on Instagram. Follow along to see some of the fun projects we are making throughout the school year.
Update and Reminders About Parent Pick-Up at Dismissal
Starting with ACP and parent pickup, dismissal begins at 3:35 daily.
Please do not arrive before 3:00 for car line as this causes a backup on Westbourne Road. When you arrive for car line, please do not park directly in front of the gate as we have students playing outside for recess. The car line should start at the flag pole.
Once the gate is opened, you will be directed to pull all the way down to the lower lot and loop around. Cones will once again be out to designate the spots where students will be walked to their car. See the pictures as well as additional reminders below.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
1. PARENTS MUST STAY IN CARS during pick up. Staff members will assist students in getting into the cars.
2. NAME CARDS (provided on the first day of school) MUST BE DISPLAYED IN WINDSHIELD. If you need a new one, please notify the office.
3. CARS MUST STAY IN THE CAR LINE. Please DO NOT try to cut around a car that is still loading in front of you.
4. If you need to pull over to get situated after picking up your child, please pull all the way up to the basketball hoops parallel to Westbourne road and pull over to the side out of the car line.
Thank you for your cooperation!
WCASD Health & Safety Plan
On August 23rd, the school board approved Dr. Sokolowski's proposed Health & Safety Plan for the West Chester Area District. The updated plan can be found via the link below. Below are some pertinent highlights of the plan:
- Masks must be worn indoors by all students and staff to start the year.
- Transmission levels in Chester County will be monitored weekly and it will be communicated out if there is a change to the masking policy.
- Masks are optional for all outdoor activities.
- Mask breaks will be scheduled by teachers throughout the day.
- Mask exceptions may be granted for: medical and or disability condition with a doctor’s note.
- All students should complete the Covid Daily Home-Screening Checklist (link to the screening is below).
- To the extent possible, 3 feet of social distancing will be maintained in classrooms and the cafeteria.
- No sharing of snacks; pre-packaged snack bags preferred.
- Students will have assigned seats on the school bus, classrooms, and cafeterias.
- Students will be seated three feet apart, all facing the same direction in the cafeteria for lunch.
- Visitors and volunteers will be allowed on-site by appointment only.
- Close contacts are defined as being within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for 15 minutes or more over a 24 hour period. Communication will be sent home for students who are identified as a close contact.
- Per the Chester County Health Department (CCHD), contact tracing is still required in the event of a positive case, with the following exceptions if both the infected student and close contact(s) were properly wearing masks: Proof of vaccination (not applicable to students under 12) OR If both the infected student and the close contact(s) were wearing masks and they were at least 3 feet apart.

ABSENCES/LATE ARRIVALS/EARLY DISMISSALS
For all absences or late arrivals, please call the Safe Arrival phone line at 484-266-1810. This answering system can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to leave messages. For all early dismissals, you MUST send in a signed note with your child on the day of the early dismissal. Only if it is a last-minute emergency change, please CALL the office at 484-266-1802 or 1803.
Drop Off
The school day begins at 9:10 which means students must be in their classroom by 9:10.
This year the gate to the parent drop-off will be closed at 9:00 a.m.
Please be sure to drop your child off with enough time to get to their classroom by 9:10 so that they are not marked late.
- ACP uses the cafeteria and the back playground. If you are later than 8:30 for ACP drop off, continue all the way to the back in the regular CAR LOOP with the rest of the parents, please.
- Buses are able to transport more kids than last year, so that should help alleviate our large car line from last year (hopefully).
- If you are later than 9:00, please park your car and walk your child to the door to be let in. If it is after 9:10, you will need to sign them in, too. If it is later than 9:00 but the buses are also still emptying, you are able to drop them off at the walkway as we will still have staff out front.
