Mr. Glover's Weekly Update
Good afternoon BMMS Raiders Families!!
I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday. As we are approaching our last week of school in the month of September, we are finally going to have some of the dust clear on our site. The construction in the parking lot has finally come to a close. The fencing has been removed and beyond the solar panel installation, we have received some additional renovations to the parking layout. With the adjustments we have made over the last month or so, we have come to the realization that there are improvements to our traffic patterns that will improve our traffic flow upon our return.
New Traffic and Parking Program at BMMS
Except for school buses and educator vehicles, the main parking lot will continue to be closed in the morning. Aside from a few visitor parking spaces, all of the parking will be assigned to educators. Please refrain from parking in these areas. We will have two locations for student drop off and pick up throughout the day.
Morning Drop Off
Option 1 - The EAST Parking Entrance will be open for two-way traffic. This will allow you to complete the circle around this portion of the parking lot and drop your child off next to the MPR.
Option 2 - Sunset Hills has graciously allowed us to continue to utilize the parking lot to complete our morning drop off as well. They have asked that we also respect that their parking spaces have been assigned to their educators as well. Again, please refrain from parking in these spaces.
Afternoon Pickup
The main parking lot will remain closed except for all of the school buses. Once the school day has ended and all of the buses have left the parking lot, we will open the parking lot for all cars for pick up. Option 1 and 2 will also be available for use for pick-up during this time.
You can continue to help us all with this by completing the following step during your drop off;
Pull your car up as far as possible, before unloading
Keep your unloading time as short as possible (30 second max)
Parents do not exit your vehicle as the driver.
If you need to unload your vehicle of items, please temporarily park in a space so not to delay the unloading area.
Please do not unload your vehicle in front of the school or in the RED areas on Oviedo Street. Please use the entrance by the MPR instead.
As we return to full access to our parking lot, we ask everyone for your patience and cooperation as we solidify the most efficient plan for the flow of traffic for both of our schools.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Have a great week, Raiders.
Mt. Carmel Football Games - BMMS Student Attending Information
All middle school students attending Mt. Carmel football games must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians. Groups of students will no longer be allowed to enter with the parent of another student. Middle school students who attempt to enter without their parents or legal guardian will be denied admission to the game.
Hispanic Heritage Highlight
During our cultural celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month, we at BMMS would like to honor a significant person or event that has shaped Hispanic & LatinX Heritage and/or history. We hope to inspire everyone to challenge themselves to learn something new this month in an effort to increase our knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic culture and community. This week's highlighted figures are: Ellen Ochoa.
Ellen Ochoa, 65, made her mark by becoming the first Hispanic American woman to go to space with a nine-day mission in 1993. Ochoa was born in 1958 in Los Angeles, years after her paternal grandparents immigrated from Mexico. She first obtained her physics degree from San Diego State University and by 1985 also had earned her master’s and doctorate degrees from Stanford University’s Department of Electrical Engineering. Ochoa became the first Hispanic American director of the Johnson Space Center in 2013, only the second woman to take the helm. After retiring with 30 years of service, Ochoa continues to advocate for women in STEM. (https://www.biography.com/notable-hispanic-americans)
Shanah tovah - “Good Year”
Shanah tovah from the BMMS family! In the spirit of us all learning about each other and growing closer, BMMS wants to come together and acknowledge Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year that will be held on the first day of Tishri (in September this year). Rosh Hashanah is observed by enjoying special foods, traditions and other celebrations. Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe (which is a 10-day period of repentance). Yom Kippur is the 10th day of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. This year Yom Kippur begins at sunset on Sunday, Sept. 24, until sundown on Monday, Sept. 25. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the two “High Holy Days” in the Jewish religion.

BMMS Career Fair - December 8, 2023
WE NEED YOUR HELP! On December 8, 2023, during both lunches, Black Mountain will be hosting our annual Career Fair in our quad. Lunch time that day will be from 11:30am-1:00pm.
Stations will be set up around our quad where students can learn information about a variety of careers. We are looking for volunteers to share information about their jobs with our Black Mountain students. Our goal is to give our students a wide experience of vocations and careers and spark interest in different career pathways. If you are interested in volunteering at a table, please complete the following survey ( https://forms.gle/tvKRzCLDuFGkRjSQ7).
If you have any questions about our Career Fair, please contact Jason Schafer, counselor at jschafer@powayusd.com
