ARJH Parent News February 12, 2023
Reading Junior High Longhorns
Hello ARJH Longhorn Parents!
Love is in the air this week at Reading as we embrace Valentine's Day with a Love of Longhorn Learning. This is the last week of the 4th 6 Weeks Grading period and a big push to finish strong with the best grades our Longhorns can achieve by the end of the week. For our 7th graders who will be applying for National Junior Honor Society this semester, it is also a time for them to finish their service hours and ensure they have at least an 85 overall GPA. Please see our school website under extracurricular for more details.
As we close out this 6 weeks and begin our 5th 6 Weeks grading period, we are also looking at attendance and having discussions with students and parents of students who have excessive absences. If your child must be absent, please make sure that you send a note when he/she returns and ensure that all missed assignments are completed. Teachers do utilize Canvas for most assignments and information, but it may be necessary for students to stay after school or come early before school for tutorials or to make up a missed exam. We do provide after school transportation on Tuesdays and Thursdays that transports students to the elementary school in their neighborhood. Just reach out to your child's teachers for tutorial information and a pass to attend.
Tuesday is Valentine's Day and we do love our Longhorns- please know that we do not deliver flowers, balloons, gifts to students during the school day. We do encourage students to continue our Kindness Challenge and do at least one random act of kindness each day this week.
Thank you for sending us the Best of the Best!

After School Car Riders
Same Procedures from August- Please Pick up from Curb in Front of School
Just a Reminder- please pick up your child along the curb in front of the school and be sure to pull all the way up to the end cone to keep the line moving. For safety reasons, we do not want our kids walking through the parking lot to find their car. If you choose to park in the parking lot, please be patient and allow us to get the curbside car line moving. We can safely cross students over to the parking lot at 4:00 PM when the GRHS students who use our parking lot have had enough time to drive out. We saw first hand last year, the safety issues that come with JH students walking to find their cars in the parking lot during dismissal. Please do not walk across the cross walk behind the staff member who is ensuring the safety of our kids and directing traffic. If you need your child early for an appointment, you may come in and check them out by 3:20 PM. If you have students at GRHS, RJH and PRMS- we can get them a pass to meet at one campus so that you do not have to pick up at multiple campuses. Thank you!

Dress Code Reminders
Please ensure students have their ID's every day!
Students are charged $5.00 for replacement ID's that must be worn at all times every day.
Reminders
ID's- everyone who enters our building has to be wearing an issued school ID (their own). Students who do not have the original free one that was given out to them at the beginning of the year, will be given a new one and charged $5.00. This could add up if students are losing them or forgetting them! They have to wear one every day, no exceptions.
Dress Code- All students must adhere to our district dress code and campus expectations. No pajamas, shoes without backs, slides, mid-drift shirts, yoga pants with short shirts, or shorts that do not meet district guidelines. I have attached the link to district dress code excerpt.
Cell Phones- All cell phones are turned off and put away in backpacks upon entering the campus. If students are on their phones, they will be collected and subject to a $15.00 fine with parent pick up.
Tardies- Students are expected to make it to class during the 5 minute transition. We have posted consequences for tardies as well as have added PBIS incentives for zero tardies during the 6 weeks.
PBIS- We are a PBIS campus (positive behavioral interventions and supports). Students can earn Longhorn Lotto Bucks throughout the day from any staff member for exhibiting character, academic achievement and showing Longhorn Pride! These LL Bucks are turned in for points towards incentives and lotto drawings for prizes. We are adding more incentives this semester and have a PBIS committee working on long range and short range incentives for the semester.

Smart Tag Information from the Transportation Department
Reminders
From the 22-23 Secondary Student Handbook, under Transportation, Page 51... Smart Tag
Ensuring the safety and security of the students riding on buses is our highest priority. To facilitate and support this safety initiative the District has implemented the Smart Tag system to promote and ensure a positive school bus riding experience for all Lamar CISD students.
Students are issued Smart Tag ID cards with an electronic chip Smart sensor (please do not modify the ID cards, or place holes in the card). The student's name is printed on the front of the card, and there is no student information stored on the card.
It is mandatory for the student to use the Smart Tag ID Badge for any transportation services. If a student does not have their Smart Tag ID for 5 days, a referral will be submitted for possible disciplinary action, which may result in the suspension of transportation service.
