Kenneth Faust Award Winner: Annie Schneidau
Kenneth was an SMM graduate who unfortunately died in an accident. Friends and family members decided that they wanted to do something in his memory. They established the Kennth Faust Memorial Award which, several years ago, was given to a 7th grader entering 8th grade. His family said it was because Kennth's 8th grade year at SMM was one of his happiest times. Now that we no longer have 8th grade at SMM, it is given to a 6th grader entering 7th grade at SMM.
Annie received a plaque and her name is on the perpetual plaque in the school office. Her name is engraved on a silver loving cup that is kept by Mr. George Faust, Kenneth's dad.

THE SNACK SHACK - OPEN FOR BUSINESS ON WEDNESDAYS
Avery and Gabriella are the proprietors of the Snack Shack and will manage all aspects of their business venture. This is not a SMM fund raiser. It is completely voluntary.
The girls will sell morning snacks (powdered donuts, muffins, pop tarts, cinnamon rolls, etc) and beverages (water, capri sun, juice, etc) out of the window in room 3. All snacks and beverages will be individually wrapped and cost between $.50 and $1.50. The Snack Shack will be open to students in grades 4 - 7 from 7:30 - 7:55 am. Snacks will be reasonably priced so there is no need for students to bring a lot of money.
The middle school teachers will take turns supervising on the days the Snack Shack is open.

TEACHER FEATURE: Amanda Schneidau
Hi, My Name Is Amanda Schneidau and This Is My Story
I am Amanda Schneidau and I was born and raised in Slidell, La. I am one of 8 children. I attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School and Salmen High School. My husband, Thomas, graduated from St. Margaret Mary. I am the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Coordinator at SMM. I also teach some of the classes. I have a total of 12 years of teaching experience with the last 7 at SMM.
When I was in high school, I prayed a lot about what it was that God was calling me to do. My junior year, I was in Eucharistic Adoration on a retreat, and I felt very strongly a tugging at my heart from the Lord to teach our Catholic faith. I began writing in my prayer journal these thoughts from our Lord and kept referring back to them throughout the duration of my junior and senior years of high school. God's plan became ever more clear to me, as He provided financially for me to go to Franciscan University of Steubenville to study theology and catechetics. I grew so much in my faith during my time in college and my desire really was to teach high school theology, which I did for 5 years following graduation.
Once I was married and had children of my own, I began to recognize a desire in them for a relationship with the Lord at a very young age. God shifted my focus from high school to young children, as I longed for a way to draw my own children closer to the heart of Christ. An answer to that longing came in this beautiful program called "Catechesis of the Good Shepherd." My family and I prayed intently for this program to come to St. Margaret Mary. Once the door was opened, we started making all the materials needed for the Atrium, and I began seeing major growth in my own children's hearts. I didn't know at the time that God would be calling me to coordinate this program at SMM. The idea was proposed to me by our former principal, Mr. Ohler. I'm so grateful now to have the opportunity to not only see my own children's faith deepening but also the many children at SMM, who I am so blessed to teach. I realize now that the amazing gift of "teaching" the faith is that it is Christ who is the Teacher, and I will forever be His student learning through these precious children He puts before me.
Outside of teaching, my days are spent caring for my 6 children, including our newest little blessing, who is now already 1 month old. With so many children, I've learned that my "hobbies" have to include them if I want to ever get to them! I love running through the neighborhood, while my boys ride their bikes alongside me. I enjoy working with clay, making little statues for the atrium and as gifts for family and friends. Some of my children have surpassed my skill level in statue making, as they've made statues with me through the years! I also enjoy a nap every now and then, and also just spending time with my husband, who is my rock of faith and whose sense of humor gets me through those crazy days that follow sleepless nights with a newborn!
