Room 2.10

My name is Rachel Bandelin and welcome to 2a! I am originally from the US and received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. After a few years of teaching in the US, I moved overseas and have taught in China, Venezuela, the Bahamas, Hannover Germany and the Northern Mariana island of Saipan. This is my second year at BMS. I look forward to working with this enthusiastic group of learners and teaching and learning with them this year!

My name is Michelle Cormier and I am very honored and excited to be the 2b teacher! I grew up in Ontario, Canada but have moved around a lot ever since. Prior to becoming a teacher, I spent 7 years in Vancouver, B.C. as a counselor at various community centers and nonprofit organizations. Although I loved counseling, I really felt compelled to go back to school to become a teacher. As a teacher, I worked in Taiwan for 3 years at an International school in a Kindergarten class which focused on Reggio Emilio methods. Afterwards, I worked for 2 years as a first grade teacher at an International school in Istanbul. This is my eighth year here in Berlin at this school. Throughout my time at B.M.S., I have taught both first and second grade as well as overseeing our math curriculum and program. I believe that my students’ success is a product of teamwork and collaboration between students, teachers, schools and families thus my classroom door is always “open”. I encourage you to visit, volunteer and share in our classroom learning experiences. This can take place in a variety of ways from accompanying us on field-trips to coming into the classroom to read with students or to share your talents and experiences with us.

I moved to Berlin from New York 4 years ago with my wife and our daughter Adele, who you may see downstairs in the BMS preschool. My family has grown here in Germany and our son, Ellis, was born in Berlin in 2013. Over the past 13 years I've taught Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 in New York, Tokyo, California, and here in Berlin as well. In addition to being a Grade 2 classroom teacher I'm also a soccer coach for the Secondary School. I'm very excited about getting started here at BMS and I look forward to a great year together!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to 2d and a wonderful new school year! I grew up near Nürnberg (Bavaria) and I am American and German. This is my 6th year teaching at BMS. I've enjoyed the opportunity of having been able to work with children in grades 1 through 4. Before that, I taught at the International School of Augsburg, after earning my teaching degree in Virginia (USA). I am excited to be your child's teacher this year and hope to make it a special one. I'm looking forward to a new learning adventure with your child and working together with you!

Frau Ginzel

Dear Parents,

I cordially welcome you to a new school year at BMS! This year I am the German teacher in three different classes. These are 2d, 5a, and 5d.

After finishing my 1st Staatsexamen in Bayreuth with a degree in Primary School Education I moved further south (close to Nuremberg) where I worked as a homeroom teacher and finished my 2nd Staatsexamen. Before I started teaching at BMS four years ago I also worked as a single subject teacher at public schools in and around Munich and lived in Australia for seven months. I am looking forward to working with 2d this term and support your child in his/her learning!

Sincerely,

Martina Ginzel
