Friday Flyer
Second Grade
Dear Second Grade Parents,
We hope you enjoyed seeing the children dressed in costume during the Halloween Parade! Thanks to those who provided snacks, drinks, and paper products for our Halloween Party. We also did our annual Second Grade Pumpkin Math class. Last week, children estimated the weight, circumference, and number of seeds for his/her group's pumpkin. We found the actual weight and circumference, as well as counted all the seeds inside each pumpkin!
Thank you to Sheri, Andy, Malia, Vicky, Kelli, and Lindsey for driving and helping us during our field trip to Brookside Nature Center. We learned more about the Native Americans from our region and played traditional Eastern Woodlands games. The children were especially thrilled to try using a bow and arrow!
Questions to ask your children:
- What was one fact you learned from the field trip?
- What was the actual weight of your pumpkin? Was your estimate close?
- What is a sachem? (a leader of the Wampanoag tribe)
- What theme are you studying in Book Clubs this week? (bats) What is the title of your book? (Stellaluna, Bat Loves the Night, or Amazing Bats)
Have a wonderful weekend,
Emilia and Rachel
