Updates from Manassas Park Middle School - 2/15/2019
Week 24 - Q2 Honor Roll and Talent Show!
This week we celebrated our Q2 Honor Roll awardees - those students who earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher. (Meaning they earned more A's than B's for principal's honor roll, or a report card of all A's for superintendent's honor roll for second quarter!)
In addition, Wednesday saw the 6th grade hosting their annual talent show (see tweets below for performances!) We are so impressed with the variety and the excellence of each entry - congratulations to all performers!
Lastly, this week saw our first round competition for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. 50 students entered the contest, with our 7 finalists competing to see who will be the MPMS champion next week! (See Miss Volosky's tweet below for a photo of our finalists!)
All these extras and our daily high quality teaching and learning throughout the building - MPMS is the place to be!
A reminder about the importance of school attendance: As I have written in the newsletter once per month, school attendance is not only critical to success in school, but is also now part of the accreditation evaluation for all public schools in Virginia. Students should minimize their absences, or if they need to miss school for a doctor/dentist appointment, should be in school for as much of the school day as possible.
A good rule of thumb is to miss no more than 2 days in a month. Truancy begins when a child misses 10 days of school, and the label of "chronically absent student" is added when a student has missed more than 10% of the school year. This week we passed the 100 day mark, so if you child has more than 8 absences, please push to ensure you child is in school the remainder of the school year.
If you have any attendance questions, please call the school and ask! We will be happy to help!
