Dear GRE Families,
It has been a whirlwind of a week for students, families and staff! We are working very hard to give you as much information as we can when it becomes available. There are so many questions but rest assured we paying close attention to the updates and information coming out from our government. Although we won't be face to face for at least three weeks, updates will come out as often as available to keep you informed!
This week teachers will be working on preparing remote learning options that will be available for students the week of March 30th through April 3rd. Beginning March 30th, teachers will post remote learning work daily in their Schoology groups. Many parents are looking for resources and ideas before March 30th. This newsletter will include ideas for you to use that you can begin whenever you are ready.
Most importantly to our staff is to make sure that all our students have what they need during this shut down. If you or someone you know is in need of food, WIFI access, hygiene or other items, please reach out to me at katethoma@bwls.net.
Stay safe, practice patience and be kind to one another-
Kate Thoma

What’s been going on in the art room...
KG- Full day students are learning about the artist Dale Chihuly, his glass sculptures and how he makes them through glass blowing. Students are working on creating their own “glass” macchia bowl inspired by Chihuly’s work.
1st- Students are learning that portraits are a picture of a person and a self portrait is a picture of YOURSELF! Students are working to create their self portrait and then focusing on the warm and cool color groups to add color in a special way next week with “magic tissue paper!”
2nd- Students are learning about an artist who was from Columbus named Aminah Robinson! They are creating self portrait collages inspired by her use of different textures, fabrics, buttons, and other materials. This week students looked at self portraits and created a cartoon version for their collage.
3rd- Students started designing their stained glass pictures with Ms. Duffy and they are now working on painting the “lead lines” and adding the colored glass portion of their pictures. Students became experts in stained glass and were excited to fill me in on what they learned this week when I got back!
4th- Students are anxiously awaiting for their clay projects to dry and be fired so we can glaze them! In the meantime, students were excited to begin planning their “Ugly Doll” inspired soft sculptures. This week students were introduced to the story behind Ugly Dolls and how one doll eventually turned into a million dollar company! They then began their practice sketches for their own design and will be creating a pattern next week.
