Viking Families: Halloween and upcoming Spirit Week!
Dear Parents and Guardians:
We are excited to have our first Spirit Week and Dance of the year, planned by our Student Council! Along with the Spirit Week,we are also allowing students to wear costumes on Halloween. See below for details.
Students who come to school in costumes that are violent in nature, inappropriately revealing, or culturally offensive will be asked to change into regular clothing. Students may NOT paint their entire face or wear costume masks. NO FAKE or LOOK ALIKE WEAPONS of any kind, even if they are plastic, will be allowed. The Bernotas Middle School administration reserves the right to ask students to change if we feel a costume is inappropriate for the school environment.

Vikings Supporting Veterans T-shirts
We're taking orders for our Viking Supporting Veterans t-shirts. Profits will be donated to local groups within the community. We need to have the orders in by the end of the week, Friday October 20th. Here is a link for the form: Veterans Day
We are excited to share that The Break is partnering with District 47 to provide a safe place for our students to have fun, connect and find acceptance in their after school program. Transportation will be available after school. We are limited to 20 spots daily (until The Break is able to expand this service). As a result, all 3 middle schools will have a daily sign up sheet (much like the activity bus sign up but this will be shared among all 3 middle schools). This will be a first come, first serve basis.
Families will need to enroll their child at The Break.
Step 1: The Break Registration Form
Step 2: RSVP on the home page The BREAK Home Page RSVP For Day/Event Would Like To Join
Membership at the BREAK is $10/month and that can be paid online when you register and there is an option for recurring membership fees. Nobody is ever turned away if they are unable to pay!! It is a simple process and they simply need to send a request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For additional information please refer to https://www.clbreak.com/ We are so grateful for the support of the Crystal Lake community and excited for this opportunity for our students!!
Student Google Accounts for Non-District Approved Apps
On October 23, 2023, Google Workspace for Education will be blocking access to apps that are not approved by District 47 for users under the age of 18. If students have used their District 47 gmail account for apps not approved by the District, their access to those apps will be blocked.
Current seventh grade students - Springfield April 2024
- Current seventh grade students have the opportunity to travel to Springfield, in April 2024, to tour the many monuments, museums, and historical sites this amazing city has to offer.
- You and your student(s) are cordially invited to an informational meeting about the April 2024, Springfield Trip on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. During the meeting, we will talk about travel dates, potential tour itinerary, and tour cost. We will also have time to answer any questions you may have. Enrollment for the tour will open after the meeting.
- These tours are such a great educational opportunity for students and I hope to see a lot of seventh graders (and parents) at the meeting to hear all about it!
Community Harvest Food Drive
RBMS is proud to support the Crystal Lake Food Pantry and looks forward to participating in the Community Harvest Food Drive again this year, a combined effort of the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Crystal Lake Community. Click here to see this year’s flyer for suggested donations. Monetary donations are also appreciated: checks can be made payable to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. Donations will be accepted until Friday, November 17th.
In an effort to maximize learning by maintaining a responsible, respectful, and safe environment, our PBIS Universal Team looks at office discipline referral data. Currently, disruptive behaviors in the classroom are the most common. Our team will be sharing tools for teachers, one of which will include talking circle prompts so that students can have a voice. Students will also be learning what teacher redirection is, why teachers redirect, and the expected way to respond.

District Bullying Policy
We want to inform you that there has been a change in the school district's policy regarding bullying allegations. Previously, school officials were required to notify parents "promptly," but a new law now mandates that notifications must be made within 24 hours of the school becoming aware of the allegation. Your child's safety and well-being remain our top priority, and we will continue to uphold these new guidelines to ensure a safer learning environment for all students.
YOUR feedback is very important to us. The way we grow and learn is through positive feedback. If you have been in the building, or have any general feedback, RBMS Feedback link. We appreciate you being a part of our team to improve our practice, ensuring student success.
Hi Viking Families!
This week the Building Leadership Team met to analyze FastBridge data. Now that the data is available, grade level teams will use this information to create goals that support all learners in their grade, while our first round of academic interventions began at the beginning of Term 2. If your student is participating in an academic intervention, a letter was mailed home. Updates will be mailed at the end of each term regarding the progress being made while in the intervention groups. Contact your teachers or the interventionist with questions.
Thank you for being a part of the Viking TEAM!
