Golf in the Halls Jan. 18
Play miniature golf in the halls of Valley High School during the West Des Moines Community Schools Foundation‘s Second Annual Golf in the Halls event!
From 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, and again from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Jan. 19, join a fun and family-friendly event to help raise money for the Foundation's teacher grant program. Putters and golf balls will be provided.
Tiger Cubs Preschool Enrollment Opens Jan. 14
The online enrollment process for 2020-21 Tiger Cubs Preschool with the West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) will begin at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020. An online form to request a Tiger Cubs spot will be made available online at that time.
WDMCS Community Connections Jan. 14
The West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) will host a panel discussion with community leaders to help unify families and residents through healthy dialogue and shared resources.
WDMCS Community Connections is set for 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Learning Resource Center, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines.
Athletic Camps and Clinics
Winter and spring camps and clinics are now open. Additional clinics will be added throughout the coming months.
How to Check Semester Grades for Secondary Students
Students and parents can continue to access Canvas to view assessments, homework, and finals scores as they get entered. However, semester final grades will now be posted in your student's transcript within Infinite Campus rather than as a report card.
Infinite Campus will be updated with semester grades by Friday, Jan. 17. Parents can take the following steps to view semester grades in Infinite Campus:
- Log into Infinite Campus
- Click on Reports in left column
- Click on Portal - Transcripts tab

ParentQuest Classes
ParentQuest provides a wide variety of free learning opportunities for parents and other caring adults as they navigate each child’s unique path to success in school and life.
We offer classes and resources designed for parents of both young children and school-aged children. Below are three of many upcoming ParentQuest classes offered this semester.
Raising Culturally Competent Kids
Would you like your child to be a kind and empathetic member of society? Helping them to have a broader sense of the world and others who live in it is important for their development. Parents are kids’ first role model in learning to appreciate diversity. In this class we'll go over simple steps to teach your child how to broaden their perspective.
Feb. 17 | 6:30 - 8 p.m.
College Planning 2.0
Take your college knowledge to the next level! This class delves deeper into the process of applying for college scholarships, financial aid, and all the corresponding timelines. We’ll also cover your EFC (expected family contribution), different types of grants, and federal loans.
Jan. 28 | 6:30 - 8 p.m.
Healthy Co-Parenting
In this course, parents will learn how to communicate more effectively with their co-parent and be provided tools to deal with the most common problems faced by co-parents. A few of the topics discussed will include:
- How can I communicate more effectively with my co-parent?
- What do we do if we can’t agree on how to resolve an issue?
- What are the things that can de-rail my co-parenting relationship?

Virtual Backpack Community Opportunities
Heartland Youth Choir Open Rehearsals

Heartland Youth Choir is holding open rehearsals for singers in grades PK-12. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in exploring their love of music beyond the school setting.
Botanical Sun Prints
Date: Jan. 19 - 1 p.m.

Cost: $10-$15
Organization: The Brenton Arboretum
Sun Printing is based on the cyanotype process, which has been used by artists since the 1800s. Create and develop several cyanotype images with natural items on both paper and fabric to take home.
ACT Prep Course

Event For: high school sophomores - seniors

All-Inclusive Park Playground Announcement
The Waukee Betterment Foundation will hold a public event to reveal the design of the “epic” all-inclusive playground planned for Dallas County. The playground is part of the new park being built northwest of Waukee, near the new high school, but is designed for use by the entire county. It will include a Miracle League field, ADA-compliant fishing pier, and an all-inclusive playground.
