# Chapter 10

## Formulas

Area of a parallelogram- A=bh

Area of a trapezoid- A= 1/2 (b1+b2) h

## Section 1

Vocabulary:

*base of a parallelogram- length of any one of its sides

*height of a parallelogram- the perpendicular distance between the base and the opposite side

*bases of a trapezoid- its two parallel sides

*height of a trapezoid- the perpendicular distance between the bases

## Area of a Parallelogram

The area of a parallelogram is the product of the base and the height.

A= bh

## Area of a Trapezoid

The area of a trapezoid is one half the product of the sum of the bases and the height.

A=1/2 (b1+b2) h

## Section 2

Vocabulary:

*area- the amount of surface a figure takes up

*circle- the set of all point sin a plane that are the same distance from a fixed point called *the center

*radius- the distance from the center to any point on the circle

*circumference- The distance around a circle

*pi- about 3.14159, 3.14, 22/7, this constant is represented by the Greek letter pi

## Area of a Circle

The area of a circle is the product of pi and the square of the radius.

A= pi *(r*r)

## Section 4

Vocabulary:

*Net- a two-dimensional pattern that forms a solid when it is folded

*Surface Area- the sum of the areas of its faces of a polyhedron

## Surface Area of a Prism

The surface area of a prism is the prism is the sum of twice the area of a base B and the product of the base's perimeter P and the height h.

S= 2B+Ph

*B is the area of the base

*P is the perimeter

*h is the height

## Surface Area of a Cyclinder

The surface area of a cylinder is the sum of twice the area of a base B and the product of the base's circumference C and the height h.

S=2B+Ch= 2*pi(r*r) +2*pi*rh

*B is the area of the base

*C is the circumference

*h is the height

## Section 5

Vocabulary:

*Slant Height- the height of a lateral face that is any face that is not the base

## Surface Area of a Pyramid

The surface area of a regular pyramid is the sum of the area of the base B and one half the product of the base perimeter P and the slant height l.

S=B+1/2*Pl

*B is the area of the base

*P is the perimeter

*h is the height

## Surface Area of a Cone

The surface area of a cone is the sum of the area of the circular base with radius r and the product of pi, the radius r of the base, and the slant height l.

S=pi(r*r)+pi*rl

*l is the slant height

## Section 6

Vocabulary:

*volume- a measure of the amount of space it occupies and is measured in cubic units

## Volume of a Prism

The volume of a prism is the product of the are of the base B and the height h.

V=Bh

*B is the area of the base

## Volume of a Cylinder

The volume of a cylinder is the product of the area of the base B and the height h.

V=Bh

=pi(r*r)h

*B is the area of the base

*h is the height

## Section 7

Vocabulary:

*Pyramid- a polyhedron, has one base, and the other faces are triangles

*Cone- a solid with one circular base

*Volume- a measure of the amount of space it occupies and is measured in cubic units

## Volume of a Pyramid

The volume V of pyramid is one third the product of the area of the base B and the height h.

V=1/3Bh

*B is the area of the base

*h is the height
