PTO Carnival
Every year each classroom puts together a themed gift basket to be entered into the school carnival’s silent auction.
Parents are asked to donate one or more items to the basket or make a monetary donation toward purchasing items for the basket. If you decide to make a donation, please send a check made payable to NC PTO. In the memo line, please write my name and our auction basket theme.
All proceeds go directly to Noble Crossing. It’s fun to see which basket goes for the highest bid!
This year our basket theme is: DATE NIGHT!
Some ideas for purchase are: Gift Cards for restaurants, movies, bowling, wine & canvas, board & brush, museums, spas, and other fun activities. You could even include cash for babysitting money. Other ideas would include at-home dates such as a dvd, puzzles, or board games.
Please send your donations into our classroom by Friday, February 10th as the carnival will be held on Friday, February 24th. This will allow time to get the baskets put together.
We truly appreciate all donations. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
This Week's Set List (January 30- February 3)
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
LITERACY – We are continuing unit 3 in reading, which focuses on researching history. Students will learn that readers of history focus on who, what, and when to make sense of our past. We will tie this in to our Civil War Unit in social studies.
WRITING – By the end of this week, students need to present to me their plan for their book as well as the names of a couple of mentor texts they are using to help guide their writing. Art and Author Night is on March 21st, which is when the final published book is due.
MATH – We will wrap up Unit 7, which has an emphasis on building number sense through exponential notation, place value, and adding/subtracting negative integers. The test is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, February 2nd.
SPELLING – All students in our class have exhibited mastery in grade-level spelling. Therefore, we will no longer take weekly spelling tests. We will, however, continue to review spelling patterns and skills that will be helpful in authentic writing.
SCIENCE – We will continue Unit 2 in Science, which is Electricity and Heat. Last week, students learned about open, closed, parallel and series circuits and then used the Little Bits to build their own examples of each circuit type. They had a lot of fun! This week, they are learning about how electricity makes their lives easier.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We will study the causes and main events of the Civil War as we work on our researching skill and nonfiction reading/writing.
TIPS - This week in TIPS, we will work on additional reading strategies and skills as well as include STEM activities that challenge students to create their own solutions by using a design thinking process!

Yoga Club
Along with Mrs. Bushong - certified yoga instructor and owner of Shine Yoga Wellness and Studio - I am offering a Yoga Club to 3rd - 5th graders. Classes begin January 17th and end February 16th, and offer students practical skills to calm and center themselves as they head into testing season. Students today experience anxiety and stress in many ways; this offers tools to help them learn to combat the pressure they face each day.
