Lion Family Newsletter
February 1-February 11
Words from Principal Wirth
Welcome to February! Time is flying; I feel like we just got back from Winter Break!
We are continuing to push forward in our work to prepare our students to engage in the global community! This means for them to be critical thinkers and to process problems/create positive solutions
Below is information about our progress as a school to achieve our goals. While we are making GREAT growth in math, we still have work to do in ELA.
We are also working to ensure our building is a safe, inclusive, and equitable space for ALL students.
This month we celebrate Black History Month and will take time to discuss the positive achievements/contributions of African-Americans throughout the world. We will do this through daily facts and exploring books.
It is important we discuss the experiences of the students that are members of the Christian Park 82 family.
Reach out if you have any questions about your child's experience at Christian Park 82!

COVID 19 TESTING- COMING SOON!!!
We are excited to be able to provide COVID-19 rapid antigen testing onsite in our school for our staff and students. This program is entirely optional, although we hope you will choose to participate to help keep our school as healthy and safe as possible. Testing is being offered, in addition to our existing COVID safety protocols — including mask-wearing and social distancing.
At this time, we are focusing our testing efforts on any staff or student that is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, which may include:
- Diarrhea
- Change in Appetite
- Nausea or vomiting
- Fatigue
- Congestion or runny nose
- Fever
- New loss of taste or smell
- Muscle or Body Aches
- Sore Throat
- Abdominal Pain
- Cough
- Shortness of Breath/Difficulty Breathing
- Headache
We will have BInax Now Tests available. Sample collection for these tests will be performed by a trained school staff member and includes a shallow nasal swab using a Q-tip, which is inserted just inside the tip of the nose. Results are available in 15-20 minutes. Parents will be notified of test results by in-person if picking up your child from school or phone call.
We do require a signed consent form for anyone desiring to be tested. Consent forms will be distributed to all students when we are given approval to do so. I will send a phone call when these are coming home.
Students or staff who develop symptoms outside of the school day can access testing at our location by contacting the school to schedule an appointment.
For testing inquires please contact the school to speak to Nurse Lee or Principal Wirth.
Masks are still required and we will follow current IPS Policy regarding students feeling ill, being direct contacts, or testing positive. Info about these scenarios is below.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!!!!
Being at school every day matters- it is the only way your child will academically and socially grow!
Our school has an attendance goal that 60.82% of our students will be here 144/180 days of the the school year.
Right now, we are on track to meet this goal. In order for that to happen, our students need to be in school ALL day, EVERY day they can be here.
- Instruction Starts- 9:20 am
- Instruction Ends- 3:50 pm
I know that things come up, but every single minute counts. Unless your child is sick or has a pre-planned appointment, they need to be here EVERY DAY.
When we go to an asynchronous day for inclement weather or other reasons, your child will need to log into their Schoology account to access the work they need to complete those days. Completing their work is the way they get marked present; if they don't do the work, they get marked absent.
If this is a struggle, please reach out so we can help problem solve with you!
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM- CAMPTOWN!!!
Last Thursday and Friday, our students in grades 3,4,5,6 participated in Team-building activities during the school day with Camptown. This gave a sneak peek of the fun things students can do in the after-school program.
Due to staffing issues, we have to split the grade levels to attend on certain days. For the near future, this is the schedule:
Grades 5,6- Tuesday from 4-6
Grades 3,4- Thursday from 4-6
Once Camptown has hired more staff, then both grade levels will attend both days. We didn't expect this many of students to be interested!!!
If you have questions, please reach out to the school!
