Surveying and Trigonometry
By: Ethan Jones
What is Surveying?
Surveying is the use of measuring tools to measure and plot large amounts of land across the Earth. It is used every time a highway or a building is constructed. It is also used in city planning and it is used extensively by cartographers and geographers to create maps.
How does Trigonometry relate to it?
Trigonometry is used extensively in surveying, It is used to prove that the survey was done properly and to speculate angles and figures that can't be measured practically like area and volume and to create plans and maps.
For example, If a surveyor is 25 feet away from a building that is 76 feet tall the surveyor could find what the angle of elevation is.
Requirements and other Info
It is generally a good idea to get a bachelors degree in engineering although an associates degree coupled with work experience would work too. You also have to take a 4 year training course and pass the test at the end of it. The average salary for a surveyor is about 60,000 dollars a year. It is projected that in the next ten years, this profession will have grown by about 10%
