WEEK OF JANUARY 21-25, 2019
TRUSTEES SERVING THE NORTHWEST CLUSTER CAMPUSES
THANK YOU TRUSTEES FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OUR SCHOLARS IN THE NORTHWEST ELEMENTARY CLUSTER! YOU ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH!
January is School Board Recognition Month—a great time to focus on the crucial role an elected board of trustees plays in our communities and schools. Plan now to show your school board members you appreciate their dedication and hard work. They are extraordinary people who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing school districts. Their actions and decisions affect the present and future lives of our children.
This year’s theme is “Planting Seeds of Success.” Dallas ISD trustees do that by not only making districtwide policy and purchasing decisions at monthly meetings but also by visiting schools and talking with constituents in their individual districts.
Overall, school boards are charged with establishing a vision for a district’s education program, designing a structure to achieve that vision, ensuring that schools are accountable to the community, and advocating for continuous improvement in student achievement.
Recognizing board members for this commitment and sacrifice takes a combined effort on the part of all those they serve: administrators, school staff, students, and the community. Although showing appreciation should be a year-round process, taking advantage of the designated School Board Recognition Month in January assures that these important people receive some of the thanks they deserve.

A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Distinguished Leaders,
Things are happening quickly as the time is NOW to for Academic Change. We must be prepared and be ready to make decisions that will impact our campuses according to the needs of our scholars in a positive way. Your presentations on The State of Schools address and your ACP Action plan presentations was indication that you are aware of the specific 'actions' to take. Thank you for your hard work on preparing and presenting both presentations to Ms. Porter and I.
January 22, you will have the opportunity to attend a 'Show Call' Professional Development Session with one additional campus representative. This meeting should fully prepare you to be successful on Aggressive Monitoring and Show Call.
Jiv Daya Foundation is a wonderful opportunity to increase the level of technology being implemented on elementary campuses. I see some campuses with full implementation of kindles using student digital profile binders but others limited implementation. Please ensure that your full implementation is evident.
I am excited to hear about ALL of you who will be attending The Leader In Me Symposium in Irving. This Professional Development opportunity will impact so many of our scholars in our feeder. The commitment we made at the beginning of last year as a feeder to implement The Leader in Me is another exemplar of working towards being ONE TEAM!
As we continue to 'Sharpen the Saw' at each of your campuses, let's all stay focused more than ever this upcoming week on observing instructional practices and giving teachers immediate feedback (twice a day) so that our scholars can receive the best GOOD FIRST INSTRUCTION as possible for the remaining instructional days prior to testing so the changes are immediate.
Have an awesome week LEADING, COACHING, TEACHING, LEARNING & MAKING ACADEMIC ADJUSTMENTS!
Enjoy your extended weekend!
"WE ARE IN IT TO WIN IT...GO FOR THE GOLD!!

Second Annual DFW School Leader Survey
Dallas ISD is participating in the second annual DFW School Leader Survey, which is intended to help districts and others across our region understand how we can continue to attract, prepare, develop and retain excellent school leaders, both at the principal position as well as other campus leadership positions. As part of this project, we would greatly appreciate your participation in the survey to understand your perspective about your experiences and where we can improve to better support you and other leaders across our district.
Participating in this survey is highly encouraged, but voluntary. This survey is being administered and analyzed by a third party. The survey results will remain entirely anonymous, and will only be looked at in aggregate, meaning no results will be shown based on any individual’s responses. Only the aggregate results of the survey will be shared with the school district – the survey data itself will remain confidential and will not be released to the district.
Respondents who fully complete the survey will be eligible to enter into a raffle for one of fifty $100 visa gift cards that will be drawn at random after the survey closes. The survey should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and must be completed by the end of the day on January 30th.
Below is the button for the survey! Please fill it out!
Middle of the Year I-SIP Assessment
We are in the MOY assessment window for Pre-K-2, so we are sending out the weekly updates on completion.
· All K-2 students should assess with ISP
· We strongly encourage Kinder to do TX-KEA again.
· Pre-K should be doing CIRCLE.
Attached are the completion rates so far, through today. Everyone needs to get into the “blue,” which means at least 98% of students are assessed.
Below is a reminder on which language the student should be assessed in. As always, students can assess in multiple languages, but they should definitely test according to the guidelines below.
TEI News for Teachers
Congratulations Walnut Hill and Jack Lowe ES!!!
Also, only 3 Dallas ISD campuses were nominated for this prestigious award and out of the three campuses two of them are in our Cluster and the other is a magnet campus.
They must now complete a rigorous application process. Announcements will be made public in September, 2019. Should both of the campuses be awarded this prestigious award, they will receive this award in Washington D. C.!
We are so proud of 2 comprehensive neighborhood campuses being nominated and in our Elementary Cluster. Way to go Walnut Hill and Jack Lowe. We are rooting for you!
