A Time For Thanks
Dear Alamo Families,
Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season as well as a time to reflect on what we are most thankful for this year. Like most year’s I am thankful for my family and all of the great memories we have made this year. I am thankful for the good health that we have and for every new day that we are blessed with. Although we may not have everything we want, we have everything we need and then some. I am also thankful for good friends and the support you feel from them during times of need. But this year, I am especially thankful for the Alamo family. Thank you to all of the parents, students and staff for your hard work and dedication towards making Alamo Elementary a positive learning environment where all kids achieve excellence. Your support and encouragement has helped make the beginning of the 2018-19 school year successful. I look forward to continuing our collaborative effort to provide such a rich learning experience for our students. The family here at Alamo has had such a positive impact on my life and I am thankful to serve such a wonderful group of children, parents and staff.
Best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving!

Alamo Christmas Blessings
Alamo will once again be adding a little Christmas cheer to local family’s holiday season. Please join us in sponsoring a family for the 2018 Christmas season.
Starting on Monday, November 19th you will find our Alamo Angel Tree in the lobby outside the cafeteria. On that tree will be ornaments with gift ideas for families. You may take whatever ornaments you'd like from the tree. We're asking that all items be returned to the school no later than Wednesday, December 12th. Please do NOT wrap the items. Please be sure to include the ornament with your present so we know to which family member it belongs.
Please contact Nicole Knight-Lucas or Robbin Williams with any questions. 269-692-6150 or nknight-lucas@otsegops.org. Gift cards and monetary donations to go toward gifts are also welcomed. Thanks!
Thank you for your generous gift of giving!
We will be wrapping all the presents for the families. If you can help we would love it! Wrapping will be on December 14 and 15th from 8:30 - 11:30.
Holiday Gift Shop
The holiday gift shop is back! December 10th-13th.
The Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe allows students to shop for their family during school hours. Students can easily purchase five or six inexpensive gift items for their loved ones. It’s one of the few times $10 is more than enough.
We will need some volunteers to help kids shop and total them up. The store will run from December 10-13 from 9:00-12:00 (Wednesday will be 10:00-12:00).
Click here to volunteer to work the holiday gift shop - Penguin Patch Store
More information will be sent home with your child shortly.
Playdough & Craft Kits Needed
Hello Otsego Families!
The Alamo Student Council is partnering with second grader Sadie Tolan. She was challenged by her church to see what good she might be able to do in her community this season. She would like to help make sick kids feel a little better. Her and her family met with a donation specialist at Bronson’s Child Life program. They expressed a desire for CRAFT KITS OR PLAY-DOUGH KITS which will be given to their patients and siblings of kids in their care over Christmas.
Would you be interested in helping care for these kids too? If so, you can drop off items starting Monday, November 19th until Friday, November 30th in the donation box next to the Alamo Giving Tree. Items will be transported to Bonson at that time! Thank you for thinking of these kids and their families!!
We have seen time and time again how generous the Alamo community is and would like to thank you in advance for your gift.
Sincerely,
Sadie Tolan & Alamo Student Council
Destination Imagination Needs Your Support
Alamo's Destination Imagination is looking for a company sponsor to help support their journey. The team will be holding monthly fundraisers throughout the year and is looking for a company that would be willing to match the amount raised per fundraiser. Sponsoring companies will have their name/logo printed on the team's shirts and acknowledged in the school newsletter. If you are interested in helping out the Alamo Destination Imagination team or know of a business that would be, please contact Terry Webber at twebber@otsegops.org or call 269-694-7600.
Dress Code Review
As we begin to ride the temperature rollercoaster that is the norm here in West Michigan, it is a good time to review the recess dress code.
All students must wear snow pants, coat, and boots to go off the paved areas of the playground when there is snow on the ground or if it is muddy. Also as the weather and temperature fluctuates our policy for outdoor gear is as
follows:
50’s – Jackets are suggested, but optional
40’s – Jackets, coat, sweatshirt, or sweater
required.
30’s – Coat, hat, gloves, boots, & snow pants
required.
We use the wind chill temperature to determine the dress requirements. The office will inform the students when the temperature is questionable.
