Dear Cardinal Family,

I was really hoping the weather forecast was an April Fools joke.

A couple of years ago, we offered the ACT in February. We were ready--until we got six inches of snow the night before. It was a thick blanket of snow, and it was cold enough to shut everything down. Within a day or two, all the snow was gone, but so was one of three opportunities we had to give the state ACT. It meant we only had one option left since the next possible date was during our spring break. It all worked out in the end but what a disruption to what we thought were great plans. We actually had to ship back all the test materials.

This week, we had the same occurrence. Thankfully the ground and roads are warm at the end of April, and the snow couldn't derail our testing or school plans. We had no delays or disruptions. That is, of course, unless you count things like snow sliding off the tent roof, but that was more like a game of chance for kids trying to get to their lunch spot.

Just as we thought testing was humming along, we had a bomb threat at the Delaware Area Career Center. It ended up being only a minor disruption, and no one was harmed. But, with our transportation and altered test schedules being tightly aligned, the threat created a bit of a mid-day frenzy .

The most important thing is that we safely completed testing. I'm definitely ready for April to end, though. May is always...nevermind. Looking forward to a strong finish to the school year.

Have a great weekend. Go Cards!

Pete Scully

Big picture

There are three general behavior expectations at Thomas Worthington: build Relationships, show Respect, and be Responsible.

We define building Relationships as “to cultivate belonging”. From our morning greeting as each student enters the building to each classroom culture, we strive to create an environment that is so welcoming that all are inspired to learn.

We define show Respect as “use appropriate language”. We work towards being mindful of the words we speak and the immense power they have on our self and others.

We define be Responsible as “attend and being on time”. We certainly extend grace when life comes at us fast and heavy, but we are intentional about the importance of showing up, being on time, and being present for ourselves and others.

Graduation Ceremony Update

Last year, Worthington contracted with the Schottenstein Center to host our school ceremonies. We shared with families the dates and times for each school:

Thomas Worthington High School - Monday, May 24 @ 7 PM

Worthington Kilbourne High School - Tuesday, May 25 @ 7 PM

The Ohio State University is not allowing large groups at this time, so we cannot finalize anything or confirm this location at this time. We are in regular conversation with them and hope to hear soon whether we can confirm their location.

If we are not able to hold our graduation ceremony at the Schottenstein Center, we will hold the ceremony on the same date and time at our football fields.

Attention 11th Grade Parents/Guardian: Important Immunization Information for Senior Year

Ohio Law (ORC 3313.671) now requires all 12th grade students to receive two (2) doses of the Meningococcal vaccine. If the first dose was given after the 16th birthday, only one dose is required. Meningococcal vaccine helps protect against meningitis, a bacterial infection that affects the spinal fluid and lining of the brain.

Your child may have already had these immunizations. Please check with your child’s doctor to determine if they have been completed. If they have not, immunizations may be obtained from your doctor, at the health department, or at any urgent care center. Please have your child drop off the updated record in the TWHS Health Office as soon as possible, or it can be faxed directly to TWHS (Fax 614-450-6393). The required immunizations (or a valid exemption) must be obtained prior to the start of the senior year. Ohio law allows schools to exclude students who do not have the appropriate documentation on file.

Please go to Ohio Department of Health's website or contact Julie Frank, TWHS School Nurse, at if you have questions. BEAT THE SUMMER RUSH AND HAVE YOUR CHILD IMMUNIZED NOW!

Before and After School Guidelines for TWHS Students
