Eagle Update - August 2020
Soar Like An Eagle!
August Update
I hope this communication finds all of you doing well and enjoying the summer sunshine. Turning the corner into August naturally gets us thinking about the school year. This year is no different that way, but is so different in every other way. The best way to start the year has not quite been determined just yet. We all need to hold tight just a bit longer as difficult decisions continue to be made as to how to best prepare and start the school year. These decisions are truly being based on what is best for our kids and your input is critical to that decision. Therefore, I do ask that you take a moment to review the below information so that we can ensure that your voice is heard and that you are aware of the proposals and pathways that are being reviewed and revised at this time. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we prepare for the upcoming school year. Thanks to all of you who have reached out to connect and discuss options, concerns, and suggestions. We are all in this together and together we will get through all of this with our children at the heart in all that we do.
I also want to extend an apology to all of you who did not receive our July communication. We held out sending another communication based on the system turning over into the next school year. We were just really excited to connect with all of you! Thanks to all of you for taking care of one another to ensure that families received communication. Thanks to our PTO for ensuring that it is posted on Facebook so that you can access our newsletter each week! Please let us know if you are not receiving our weekly communication. Sometimes there are just some interesting glitches that come up that we need to figure out with the support of our technology department.
Typically at this point in the year we would be sharing class placements and lots of other information related to Open House, Picture Day, Concerts, PTO Events, etc. Regardless of if we return to Face to Face or Virtual learning, we know the year will look different. As the details of the year become finalized, then we will share plans and dates. We also need to recognize that we may have to adjust as the year goes and flexibility and positivity will go a long way as we work through all the adjustments.
Have a wonderful week and we will keep in touch with any updates that are available in the upcoming days and weeks. Do anticipate a weekly newsletter starting this week.
You are all missed and we cannot wait to get the year started!
School District of Waukesha School Board Communication
SDW COVID Planning
All families should have received a survey on Friday. Please take a moment to complete the survey. Your input and voice is a critical factor as district plans continue to evolve in the upcoming weeks and throughout the upcoming school year. Below is the email with survey information and the survey link for your reference. Again, please take a moment to take the survey to ensure that your voice is accounted as plans for re-opening continue to develop.
Dear Waukesha Families,
Attached to this email you will find a follow-up Back To School Survey that will help guide the district administration as to your preference on the method of attendance in the fall of 2020. Before you are allowed to take the survey you will be asked to provide your child's Student ID number and date of birth. This is a necessary step to make sure each student is only counted once. You should fill out the survey once for each student you have enrolled in the district. Once you have completed the survey you will not be allowed to submit another survey.
As you contemplate your choice of attendance method, keep in mind that your child's spot in any specialty program or school open enrollment will be maintained when we return to full face to face instruction.
We are offering 3 pathways for learning starting September 1, and we are surveying you to see which option you are interested in for your child or each child that you have attending our district. It is very important to us that you choose your preferred option by August 5. This will allow us time to determine by school what our classroom and staffing scenarios would be in preparation for registration and a safe and effective return.
We are also asking that you choose this option with a semester long commitment in mind. We will re-evaluate your choices mid-December and then make final adjustments for the second half of the school year.
Please carefully review the following documents.
Proposed SDW Face to Face Learning Mitigation Guidelines
Please review the questions below, discuss and decide how you will answer each question before beginning the survey. THESE ARE SAMPLE QUESTIONS: (DO NOT ANSWER HERE. ANSWER BY CLICKING THE SURVEY LINK.)
Question 1: Based on the statement and documents above my enrollment preference for my child's first semester of instruction would be:

2) Virtual Instruction (with a teacher from my child's home school where possible)
3) eAchive Virtual Instruction (with a district teacher from eAchieve Academy the SDW online charter school)
4) Other
Question 2: Knowing that physical distancing will not be possible on the bus, and that students will be required to wear a mask on the bus, will your child be accessing district provided bus service?
