Director's Dispatch

Dear Preschool Families,

Because building a strong foundation for our future readers is very important to us at Unity Preschool, we are promoting literacy during the month of March. Each week of March we will be reading a book written by Peter Reynolds (https://www.peterhreynolds.com/) and doing some fun activites:

Ish - March 1

Sky Color - March 8

Be You - March 15

The Dot - March 22

Your child brought home a yellow Reading Log along with a Literacy Month packet of information. Please return the Reading Log after you read 10 books with your child. We will hang the reading log and your child will receive a small treat.

The simple and enjoyable act of sharing books with your child helps them learn pre-reading skills such as understanding the sounds letters make, developing a bigger vocabulary, and building background knowledge. Reading to children from an early age can help prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed. Have fun reading this month:)!

Much love,

Ms. Linda

Director - Unity Preschool

Color Day and Spirit Day

Our next Color Day is Wednesday, March 17 and it will be GREEN DAY! For many years, a leprechaun has visited Unity Preschool causing mischief in our classrooms, but also leaving some treats. We look forward to following clues to see if we can catch him this year.

Our Next Spirit Day is Thursday, March, 25. Dress your child in any kind of (polka) dots that you have in honor of The Dot, a book by author Peter Reynolds.

Teacher Feature - Ms. Carolyn

We are so blessed to have Ms. Carolyn at Unity Preschool. Ms. Carolyn has been helping Unity Preschool for the past 10 years! She is our Monday helper, Librarian, first call sub, and extra pair of hands. Ms. Carolyn is a Fort Mill native and an avid Clemson fan. She also works in the FLYERS after-school program at Fort Mill Elementary and as our Nursery Caregiver at Unity for the Two-year-old class.

Favorite Foods: Ms. Carolyn enjoys ice cream (especially butter pecan at Baskin Robbins) and hamburgers.

Favorite Music: Ms. Carolyn loves "oldies" music from the 60s, 70s and 80s

Favorite Book: David Copperfield by Charles Dickens

Favorite Activities: Ms. Carolyn loves the mountains, cruising and her sweet dog, Toto.

Preschool Donations

This year each child uses his/her own supply box when working on activities. Some of our students have run out of Elmer's glue sticks and several Crayola washable markers have run dry from tops not being put on quite tight. If you would like to donate these items so we can replace as needed, we would appreciate it.

COVID Update

We are happy to report that our quarantine numbers have much improved since our last newsletter. All of our Staff have returned and two of us have been vaccinated. None of our students are currently quarantined.

Thank you for your faithfulness in keeping your child home if you or your child are not feeling well. We encourage you to temperature scan and monitor your child closely for any sign of potential illness. Students should remain at home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, new or persistent cough, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue and/or stomach issues (diarrhea). It is also helpful to keep your children home if another family member in the household has similar symptoms.

We recognize that CDC quarantine guidelines are confusing and changing. We have a direct contact with DHEC so if you have any questions regarding whether you think your child should quarantine, please just ask. We pray that we continue to remain COVID-free.
