Dmitri Mendeleev
Dmitri Mendeleev was born February 8th, 1836 in the village of Verkhnie Aremzyani, Tobolsk Governorate, Russian Empire. He is thought to be the youngest of anywhere from 11-17 siblings. Mendeleev was raised a Christian and growing up, however he eventually converted into Deism.
When he was 13, His father passed away and then his mother's family's glass factory burned down after that. So in 1849 his mother took him across the whole state of Russia, looking for a higher education for him even though they were very poor. The University of Moscow rejected him, however he was soon able to get into the Main Pedagogical Institute in St.Petersburg. During his later life as a chemist he created the periodic table (although not accepted until 20 years after he discovered it). However that was by far his largest and possibly largest contribution by anyone to chemistry and the atomic theory.
