Another great resource that we have locally is out at Oakland Schools. They not only are available for questions but also run classes to help you understand what is going on in your child's IEP world. Check out their site and see what Oakland Schools has to offer.
Response To Intervention: Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom. Struggling learners are provided with interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of learning
Specific Learning Disability: An SLD is actually a group of disorders, not a single disorder. They affect the brain’s ability to receive, process, store, respond to, and communicate information. Some individuals, despite having an average or above average level of intelligence, have real difficulty acquiring basic academic skills. These skills include those needed for successful reading, writing, listening, speaking and/or math. These difficulties might be the result of a specific learning disability.
Otherwise Health Impaired: OHI is a category of disability recognized by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Other health impairment means having limited strength, vitality, or alertness, including a heightened alertness to environmental stimuli, that results in limited alertness with respect to the educational environment “due to an acute or chronic health problem”.
