Principal's Message: Dream Big Bonsall West and ride with pride!
August 2022
Dear Bonsall West Families:
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! I can’t wait to hear from all of our students about their summer adventures! For our returning families, I look forward to seeing you all and continue serving you, your children and the Bonsall West Community! For families new to our school, I am excited to meet you and your child. Those of you who have been a part of our school community already know what a special place Bonsall West is. To our new families, you will quickly discover our school is a place where you will be welcomed warmly, accepted and your children will be provided with a safe and challenging environment. We are here to support your child in transitioning to our amazing school. Our dedicated staff has been busy preparing for the return of students on Wednesday, August 17th. During the summer, many of our teachers attended the Bonsall University to become familiarized with our new science program and to deepen their understanding of our mathematics and writing programs. Students at Bonsall West learn the grade level standards through integrated units of study and the use of technology. Teachers at Bonsall West have developed applied cross curricular skills by fostering literacy, critical thinking and problem solving in all content areas. At Bonsall West, students learn to work collaboratively with their peers and teachers, to communicate effectively and develop an innovative way of thinking.
This school year will be a wonderful year! We are confident that we will continue to provide a rigorous program which will incorporate opportunities for developing relationships, providing academic/emotional support and guidance. We are partners to ensure all students have equitable access and succeed academically/behaviorally . Each grade level team will continue to improve their instruction by having a laser like focus on the essential standards for each child. It is our responsibility and mission to ensure all students are academically, socially and emotionally prepared in either college or career.
We cannot do the work we do without you, the parents. You are integral in your child’s academic success and your child’s first teacher. Now, more than ever, we need to work as community partners to support each and every child. We are here for you as your child’s educational team. One way to continue with support is by joining the PTA on Totem: https://jointotem.com/ca/oceanside/bonsall-west. We have been very fortunate to have a strong relationship with our PTA and to receive significant financial support for our students.
Our hot lunch/breakfast program will continue to be available free of charge for ALL students this upcoming year.

Health and Safety Update
In regards to COVID-19, Bonsall Unified School District continues to prioritize school safety and in-person learning for all students.
In person learning will continue as we launch the 2022-2023 school year and Masks and COVID vaccines are NOT required in our District. Students who wear a mask will be supported and respected.
With this in mind, BUSD asks all students to practice frequent handwashing, covering one's mouth when sneezing, and take measures to foster a healthy immune system (i.e. proper nutrition, exercise, and rest).
In turn, BUSD will continue to place an emphasis on the proper sanitation of all District schools and facilities and employ various COVID-19 mitigation strategies.
If your student tests positive for COVID-19 please report the result to the school and know they must stay at home for a minimum of 5 days. During this time we encourage you to monitor your students for their well being and return them to school once they are symptom free and test negative.
BUSD is and will remain in compliance with all county and state mandates regarding COVID-19.
