Cobra Connection
June 2019 Edition
Dear MLK community:
As we come to the end of this academic year, it is with great pride that I can look back at the many achievements of the students at Martin Luther King, Jr. MS. They, along with their teachers, have worked so hard despite every changing demand made on us by a new, challenging curricula, changes to district expectations, and changes resulting from our collaborative efforts to just do what’s right for as many students as possible. The many values that have been on display throughout the year have particularly come to the forefront of my attention as we end the school year include – resilience when tackling a particularly tricky problem whether it is in class or a problem between friends; courage in coping with changes; love and honesty towards members of the school community; appreciation and happiness for each other and all the opportunities they are given within and outside of the school – which all strengthen their character and their ability to make the most of every aspect of school life.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for their hard work this year. It has been a year of changes and they have embraced this with goodwill and continued to make their best effort to provide the best education for the students here.
I would also like to thank all parents and guardians for their support this year. A great deal of what we do in school cannot be achieved without you and your cooperation and backing. In an effort to continue that support, collaboration and partnership, even as we end the year, we encourage each of you to consider joining our PTO during the 2019-20 school year.
Finally, I would like to wish all of our 8th grade students who are leaving us at the end of this academic year the very best on their journey towards high school. Wherever they may go, I know that they have all had a great start here at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School and know that they will go on to achieve great things in the future. We look forward to celebrating achievements and matriculation to the next grade level with the following grade level awards and promotional ceremonies:
1:30-3:30 pm Friday, June 7- Grade 6 Awards Ceremony
11-1 pm Monday, June 10- Grade 7 Awards Ceremony
6:30-8 pm Tuesday, June 11- Grade 8 Promotional Exercise
Location: Laurel High Auditorium (Limit 4 guests per student)
In addition to these there are a plethora of exciting experiences that we have planned to close the year. Please remind your child of the commitment that we will keep to accountability to ensure their participation. While we look forward to the participation of every child, we are will exclude students for inappropriate behavior. Your efforts in collaborating with us to ensure their participation is appreciation.
We look forward to sharing in the joy of your children’s transition and look forward to seeing you soon! Best wishes for a wonderful summer!
