Setting the foundation for what we are becoming
Departure and Arrival procedures seem to be running smoothly. With that being said, please stay vigilant with ensuring each student knows where they are going at the end of the day. We are employing one small change from the office. We will communicate our end of day messages to each classroom between 2:30 and 2:45 rather than 3:00. We are seeing this extra time as a need.
We have talked at length about honoring the capabilities of our learners. Interest driven curriculum helps lead the way as we strive to celebrate the student individual voice and also allow for student choice. I found the video above so very timely. It essentially represents the Nobel prize in teaching. Please watch the short video interview with teacher Nanci Atwel.
It is important to recognize a strong and balanced knowledge of an the academic profile of each your learners will help to not only design lesson plans and but help to plan possible learning experiences with groups of students. This would start with the administration of assessments and understanding of how to best use this assessment data. Please let Dana or I know if you have needs of learning more on how to use any of these assessments.
I have asked everyone to complete an instructional fire and tornado drill by the close of today. Please verify at this link:

Below please find helpful thoughts from Carly and Kathy. Please ensure you read and review these documents and have understanding of assessments windows and who is giving the assessments. NWEA assessment schedules will be coming out soon.
Our school as a community of learners
We are in the growth industry striving to help not only our students learn but also as we seek best practice and employ change that helps service our students. Words are powerful! Words can also be dangerous. As a community of learners we want to be careful to not use certain words and certain groups of words as they stifle growth. Examples of such would be:
- We have always done it this way
- We do it this way
- We can't
- They can't
- Let's try it next year
- We are just slow to grow or try new things
- It stresses me out
- I can't
- I will try it next year
- Our way of doing things is
Think about this the next time your team has a discussion or you are engaged in a great growth conversation.
