Principal Weekly Update

February 21-February 25

Dear Welchester Community,

Thanks to everyone who supported Parent Teacher conferences, either by bringing us food or attending! We are having our snow make up conference day from Wednesday, February 16th on Tuesday, February 22nd.

The Board approved converting two student-contact days to non-student contact days on the 2021-22 calendar. These non-student contact days will take place on March 28, 2022 and April 22, 2022.

Due largely to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jeffco Public Schools has experienced nearly 9,000 educator absences so far in the 2021-22 school year, which have been unable to be filled by paid substitutes/guest teachers. Teacher and school-based staff workload has been tremendous this year. Our educators have consistently covered or combined each other’s classes, due to various absences in order to support in-person learning for our students.

Parent Seminar: Parent coach and counselor Nick Thompson spends time with Jeffco parents and caregivers simplifying problems and tackling them head on.

A recorded session will be available to all who register, regardless of attendance. Available in Spanish and other languages with 48-hr notice. Please indicate on registration form.

In this free online seminar, you can explore:

  • Building trust and connection with your child
  • How to effectively communicate with your child that opens them up
  • Supporting your child struggling with stress and anxiety
  • Strategies to avoid fear-based parenting

Restrooms at Welchester

We had to close two bathrooms for 3 days this week due to students using the bathrooms inappropriately and disrespectfully. We have had writing on the walls, breaking of soap dispensers, rolls of toilet paper put into the toilets. and students not using the toilet for their business. We are implementing sign in and out sheets from classrooms, increased monitoring by adults and teachers taking the whole class for bathroom breaks.

We are revisiting expectations and plan to re open the bathroom to try again.

Please help us reinforce our Restroom Rules.
