Counselor's Corner
Skyline families,
This week is National School Counseling Week. It has been an excellent reminder of why I am so grateful to be part of our community. My school counseling lessons have been focused on empathy building after our Kindness Week. Our community cares and it showed with the final tally from our sock drive. Students donated 660 pairs of socks. Donated socks will be helping both the Portland Rescue Mission and our PTA clothing closet. They were in need of socks and are very grateful for our donation.
Have a wonderful week and stay warm,
Amy Gervais
School Counselor
IB Corner
The assembly last Friday was just another reminder of all the amazing students here at Skyline. This month we are focusing on the IB Learner Profile of a Communicator. To demonstrate being a Communicator one:
“Understands and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in more than one language and in a variety of modes of communication. They work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others”
Please keep an eye out for all your Communicators in school and at home. Here are some books that you can read.
TAG Information
Skyline Families who are interested in applying to Access. The Application is not available. You can find the application on the TAG website on the front page and in the ACCESS link on the TAG page as well. It is also on the ACCESS school website. The process guide can also be found on both the school’s website and the TAG website under ACCESS. Parents, you must also fill out a SchoolMint application. That link is also on the ACCESS application. If a child has already completed the ACCESS Application and was included in the lottery for the years 17-18 and 18-19, they only have to do a short form, which is on the ACCESS application and they will still need to do the SchoolMint application. They do not need to go through the whole ACCESS application process.
A reminder that students applying for ACCESS must have a 99% in one of the 3 areas of TAG identification; Intellectual, Math and/or Reading AS WELL AS a demonstrated need for an alternative program. These indicators are also in the ACCESS Process Guide found on the ACCESS school site and the TAG Dept website. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any support.
We have finalized the dates for TAG testing for all students that submitted their forms in November. Skyline students who have been nominated, not the students who qualified based off of their SBAC scores, will be testing on February 27 and 28. Letters will come home to families who are testing the week prior to remind families and students. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Successful School Survey
Skyline Community,
Skyline Staff has been working hard this year within our school Climate Team. We have been streamlining school-wide behavior and expectations, promoting positive incentives with our Golden Eagle Tickets and weekly drawings and celebrating students who demonstrate the IB Learner Profile traits at our monthly school-wide Assemblies. Now we would love to hear from the Community as to what you see and how you feel the climate of our school is. Please take a moment to fill out the Successful Schools Survey. Your feedback will only help us improve on policies and procedures within Skyline. There will be a flyer coming home with your students today with login directions; however, you can go to this link and complete the survey from here as well. surveys.panoramaed.com/portlandor/ppsfamily.
You will then select Skyline School to complete the survey. You can also use the PPS Family Survey Access Flier-All Languages.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We are hoping for as much participation as possible.
