The Beginning
Day 1
The Battle of Gettysburg took place in the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Confederacy had about 70,000 men fighting in the battle while the Union had around 93,000 men. This battle was extremely bloody, with a total of 45,000 casualties/wounded men on both sides.
Union Army
Leader of the Union Army, Ulysses S. Grant.
Confederate Army
Leader of the Confederate forces, Robert E. Lee.
The Bloody Battle
The most bloody battle fought in the entire civil war.
Significance
The outcome of the battle resulted in the loss of many men, and a Union Victory for leader/commander Ulysses S. Grant, which brought forth the actual significance of the battle. Robert E. Lee felt was stopped in the tracks of his plan of invasion. This brought forth a turning point which lead to many more Union Victories.
