More and more great events this week:
- Mrs. Lorimer has been visiting classrooms all week to teach whole group lessons at all grade levels on ways to solve problems with peers, identify and navigate our emotions, and be the best versions of ourselves! See the counselor corner below for an update on some of her lessons.
- Mrs. K Brown has her students creating beautiful poetry and reading to us in the office!
- Mrs. Harris read her kindergarten classes the book "Sophie's Squash" then they got to design and name their own squash friend!
- PTG hosted an amazing Book Bingo night for students on Tuesday evening. All students who played got to take home at least one book!
- Mrs. Dunne's 6th graders are working on understanding timelines and how to use them to place events in history!
- Mr. C led the school in our first student fire drill on Tuesday, and we crushed it!
- 5th graders were able to attend the return of our annual career fair during which they met with guest speakers from around town to learn about all different kinds of possible careers in their futures!
Principal Updates
Our month is, believe it or not, coming very close to an end. Next week we only have two days of school before we take a much needed long weekend and, for some of us, celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Classrooms have been engaging in lessons and activities each week from our social-emotional curriculum Purposefull People. Each month, we focus on a new character trait. This month happens to be gratitude. We've been discussing with students how gratitude is showing appreciation for the people and things in our lives. We also do a weekly Thankful Thursday in our daily announcements. I have to say, this year I've been full of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to get to know such an incredible learning community, for the talented and dedicated group of educators I get to work with every day, and for the families and caregivers who have raised such loving and wonderful students, who show me grace each day as I learn new things about our school, and who show such love for all of us. I hope you know how important you and your students are to us all!
There will be no newsletter next week. I hope you get the time to relax with your loved ones or go on a fun adventure and make new memories. My younger brother, who lives in Austin, is able to come home this weekend to celebrate my birthday for the first time in years and to have Thanksgiving with our whole extended family. I'm working to convince all of them to run the BRRC Thanksgiving Turkey Trot with me on Thursday... they're not *quite* sold yet but I keep telling them how grateful they'll feel for the amazing food afterwards! Enjoy your time together, and we'll return to our newsletters in two weeks!
Updates & Ongoing Reminders
HUGE welcome to Carolina Johnson! Carolina has been a noon aide and crossing guard at Moran Prairie for years. Starting today, she is taking on a new role as part-time office assistant. We are so lucky to have such a kind new addition to our team, someone who knows the students and families, and staff so well. If you see Carolina, please tell her congratulations!!
- Spirit gear arrived yesterday and was distributed to classrooms!
- Please remember to send students to school with coats and hats and gloves. Please also write names in them so, if misplaced, we can return to the rightful owner!
- Tuesday November 22nd will also be a whole-school spirit day sponsored by our new ASB. The theme is career day; come dressed as your dream career!
- Remember that there is no school Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday next week!
Positive Behavior Quarterly Assembly Next Week!
Next Tuesday, we will have a fun assembly to celebrate and acknowledge two students from each classroom that have exemplified our Purposeful People character trait of GRATITUDE during the last month! Students will be recognized in front of the student body and we will be using the assembly to introduce the upcoming trait of EMPATHY to the students and staff.
We will finish our assembly with a celebration of Moran Prairie crushing our JOYA penny drive goal by raising over $4000. Students earned the privilege of spraying the admin team with Silly String in front of the whole school! We are excited to send our students into a holiday break with full hearts and a celebratory event!
Due to the somewhat chaotic nature of the event with silly string at the end, we don't have the space for families to attend. Those whose students are being recognized will be notified by Monday!
