Principal's Message
Dear families and community,
September is Suicide Awareness Month, and Campo Verde will be supporting Suicide Prevention Week during the week of September 9th-13th on our campus. On Monday, September 9th all students will partake in a SOS (Signs of Suicide) “Friends for Life” 25-minute video. There is an opt out form attached.
This LINK will take you to the “SOS Portal for Parents” to engage in an interactive online platform to learn about the warning signs of suicide tips on how to talk to your teens about mental health. It includes portions of the videos as well as options for them to learn more about anxiety, depression and if you would like to complete a screener with your child. **Please make a note that we will not be administering the screener as stated in the portal for parents.

Library news and information
The library updates multiple displays monthly in order to help our Campo students. One of the displays this month contains American historical fiction books in order to help out our juniors taking American History. There are some truly amazing stories captured in these novels. Take a closer look at Audacity by Melanie Crowder, a novel told in verse from the perspective of Clara Lemlich showing the working conditions of the early 1900s, or Hamilton and Peggy!: A Revolutionary Friendship, which shows the effect Peggy Schuyler had on the foundation of our country because of her friendship with Alexander Hamilton.
We will have Cooper, our therapy dog, in the library on Thursday, September 12 during both lunches for any students that would like to pet him and enjoy the happiness he brings them. Thank you to Kay Gaylor, his owner, that brings him to our school multiple times a month for many of our classes and lunch time students.
Our 3D printer is up and running for the school year. Campo students or community members are welcome to use it and only have to pay for the price of materials used.
Digital Citizenship
Digital Citizenship addresses 21st century skills such as: Media Balance & Well-Being, Privacy & Security, Digital Footprint & Identity, Relationships & Communication, Cyberbullying, Digital Drama & Hate Speech, News & Media Literacy.
The Gilbert Public School district uses Common Sense as our resource of information and Campo Verde teachers will be teaching all our students these digital skills from its resources. Common Sense is a trusted site grounded in research with its mission as, “helping kids thrive in a rapidly changing world”. This site also has a section for parents so that you can support your children, no matter what age, with these skills. We recommend that you take a look at it, but we will also use this newsletter as a way to give you resources on these topics. Here is a short video from commonsense on digital citizenship: What is Digital Citizenship?

THE CAMPO VERDE MARCHING BAND TAKES THE FIELD
Campo Verde High School truly has an amazing music scene at the football games. During the first couple of games, at home and away, the Coyote Pride Marching Band performed the national anthem and its fun show featuring music of Ariana Grande, “Focus” and “Problem.” This season, the directors, Matt Kozacek and Taylor Mitchell, incorporated a new routine that took the audience by surprise, when the band members unexpectedly ran onto the football field, while holding their instruments, and rallying the crowd. The attending students, family members, and visitors alike, welcomed the marching band members with chants and cheers displaying an unforgettable sign of unity and harmony.
After the band’s field performances, the members filled the stands louder and stronger than ever, playing tunes like “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga, “Trumpets” by Jason Derulo, “Fireball” by Pitbull, and other cheerful tunes. The band’s roaring trumpets, expressive saxophones, color guards’ infectious enthusiasm, and all of its talented band members have already made this season momentous by setting the right tone. This is an amazing start to the season and cannot wait to see the Coyote Pride Marching Band back in action at the next football game. GO YOTES!

Sweep
Students who do not arrive to their first hour class on time will be redirected to the sweep room. A parent or guardian must physically enter the building to sign in the late student, otherwise the student will be directed to sweep. Parent phone calls will not excuse the sweep.
While in sweep students will not be able to work on assignments, socialize, or use any electronic devices. Procedures will be in place for students to make up class work and tests they may have missed when they were in Sweep. If a student is swept on a test day, the teacher will allow the student to make up the test. Students who have an assignment due will deliver it to the teacher that same day. All students will be informed of how the Sweep program will be integrated into their school day.
Students who demonstrate repeated tardy behavior will be subject to the progression of interventions and disciplinary action in an effort to encourage and teach proper time management skills. Consequences for sweep will go as follows:
1 st Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and it will be documented.
2 nd Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and receive a referral.
3 rd Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and assigned Saturday School.

Front Office
The Front Office ONLY accepts school-related items for drop off. We do not accept - food, drinks, balloons, gifts, or flowers.
We do not call students out of class to pick up their items. They need to come to the Front Office BETWEEN CLASSES OR AT LUNCH to pick up items at the Drop Off Table.
If a student orders lunch out (Door Dash, etc) - We do not call the student or sign for their lunch. The student needs to be inside the office for their delivery.
If a parent needs to pass an item to their student, the parent and student need to arrange to meet INSIDE THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE LOBBY - NOT AT ONE OF THE GATES.
No outside drinks allowed.
