Mayfield Messenger

1/25/2019: Your Weekly Update for Mayfield Intermediate

Congratulations on a Terrific 1st Semester of School

Congratulations to all our students, staff members and families for finishing up the first semester of school. As I look back through all the Mayfield Messenger's on the school year I'm impressed by the amount of hard work that is being done by our students and staff! It definitely takes the whole community to come together and work towards a common vision of success.

Creating a Shared Vision of Success

On Friday, January 25th, our staff had the privilege to work with Andy Jacks. Mr. Jacks is an award winning principal from Ashland Elementary School in Prince William County. He was the 2018 recipient of the Virginia Principal of the Year Award and a 2018 National Distinguished Principal Award.

The teachers worked with Mr. Jacks to start the first stage of developing a shared vision for what we all want Mayfield Intermediate School to be. This is the first step in a process that will include students, parents, and other school division personnel. Our teachers left today's workshop inspired and ready to continue making a positive impact on the lives of our Mayfield Bobcats!

Instructional Focus: Project Based Learning

Ms. Coombs tweeted out this week an activity that her students completed in science class. The students built a model of the ocean floor using play-do. Then the students took a model that was created and covered it in water to see what the ocean floor actually looks like. This was a great idea to get students active in their learning. Great job creating an activity that students will remember when they think about the ocean floor.

School-Wide Spelling Bee Final

The final round of our school-wide spelling bee will be held of Tuesday, January 29th at 9:00 AM. We look forward to seeing all our students compete to the best of their ability! Good luck to all the Bobcats who are participating.
