News from the Children's House
Dear Families,
It has been a busy month down in the Children’s House wing. We are seven weeks into the school year, and all six classrooms are rocking and rolling. One thing that all six classrooms are participating in is called Second Step. Children benefit from social-emotional learning (SEL) at any time, but today, it’s essential to help them develop the skills they need to connect and thrive. Second Step Elementary is a leading research-based SEL curriculum for Kindergarten–Grade 5 students. The curriculum is broken down into three separate units with a total of 20 different lessons. Each of the lessons has a brain builder- to warm up their brains, get started- to set the stage for the lesson, practice session- to provide children time to practice the specific skill that was taught, and check- this is used to check their understanding of what was taught during the specific lesson. The children all enjoy the lessons and how interactive each experience is for them!!
Peace,
The Children's House
New Stadium Announcement
Future Rider Families,
Tomorrow night the district opens its brand-new community stadium with a football game between your Roosevelt Riders and Waukee. The game is at 7:30pm and we are anticipating the largest crowd of the season. In order to ensure that we have a successful event, and take care of our multi-million dollar district investment, here are some important notes to review as middle school families before attending the game.
- Middle School students are not to attend without an adult who is responsible for their whereabouts and behavior from the time they arrive to the time they leave the stadium.
- Students should sit with their adults.
- Students should only leave their seats for the restroom and/or to get concessions.
- Students should not congregate on the concourse.
- Do not bring any backpacks or umbrellas.
- Small clear bags are permitted for adults only.
- We have partnered with Urban Dreams for event management. If an adult with an Urban Dreams shirt and event staff badge makes a request of a student, we should treat that request as if your school admin is making the request.
Hosting an event of this size is quite the undertaking. We're thrilled to be the first game in the new stadium and want to ensure all attendees have a positive experience.
Respectfully,
Steven Schappaugh, Principal
