*Super Citizen & Character Traits (Thank you, Denise!):

We will run the character trait certificates and have them to you before each assembly. ONLY super citizen will be awarded at the assembly.
Remember a student may only be nominated for super citizen once their entire elementary career. PLEASE check the award history before entering your submissions.
September nominations are due 9/13.

Did someone say...Refreshments?!?!
If you [are reading this] looking for cookies, please accept my apologies. As much as I would love to send food, the refreshments I'm referring to are, of course, the teaching kind.
Now that I've left that utterly dorky paragraph behind, let me tell you what I pulled together for you today.
I'm sensing that these days, many of you are thinking deeply abouthow to teach all the stuff you need to teach in the upcoming months. I'm not talking time management; I'm talking nuts and bolts, the specific strategies you'll use to get the stuff into their brains. You probably have a standard repertoire for making that happen, but who doesn't like having a fresh new tool in the box?
So this week, I'd like to help you find one way to refresh your instruction. One approach or strategy you may not have tried, maybe something that will energize your classroom or help you teach a certain topic or skill that's always been difficult or dry.
Here are some possibilities:
*Curation
Having students curate their own collection of items is an engaging, higher-order task.
*Reciprocal Learning
This strategy has pairs of students coach each other through a set of problems; ideal for math, grammar, or anything procedural where there is a clear "right answer."
*Jigsaw
This is cooperative learning strategy can be incredibly powerful if it's done right. This one is best for big chunks of content that can be divided into smaller chunks.
*Concept Attainment
A way to get students wrestling with a big idea before you explain it to them. This would be a perfect replacement for a standard lecture on a topic.
One of the most popular strategies on my site, this EASY method gets students moving and talking about pretty much anything you're teaching.
This mnemonic strategy would be a great way to help students with anything they need to memorize.
