Our Motto: Teaching the Mind...Nourishing the Soul
Theme for the Year - TRUTH
At St. Joseph Catholic School, we are striving to become missionary disciples by revealing the Truth of Christ to others through our actions.
Our Mission and Vision Statements
Mission:
St. Joseph Catholic School provides students with a safe and prayerful learning environment, enveloped by an intimate community of active and faithful families.
Vision:
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Worth are committed to opening the doors so that our students can reach further than the walls that would otherwise enclose them and therefore are able to recognize and cherish the eternal and transcendental goods of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
From the Principal
Happy Catholic Schools Week!
We have been enjoying the gift of our Catholic School this week. Beginning on Sunday with our Open House, and ending on Saturday with the 8th Grade Garage Sale, it will have been one busy week! Our students have reflected on what they love about our community. They have given thanks for our clergy and religious. They have honored our nation and those who protect it. They have even celebrated being Catholic school students! As they leave school on Friday, we will encourage the students to be thankful for their families, and to enjoy time with their families this weekend. Our school would not be what it is today without you, our families.
On behalf of the Faculty and Staff, thank you for being a part of St. Joseph Catholic School. It is an honor to serve you. May God bless you always! Go, Knights!
In Christ's service,
Diane Price, M.Ed.L.
Principal

When We Make Mistakes
Have you ever ruined a really good lesson with an “I told you so”? I know I have. Human nature just makes it difficult to resist “sharing our wisdom” at the wrong times.
Here are some thoughts on helping kids learn better from their own mistakes as well as learning from our mistakes.
The short version is: Save the “I told you so!” for when you mess up (lecture yourself out loud about what you learned) and pour on the empathy (mostly silent empathy) when kids make mistakes. This is not always easy to pull off, but kids tend to learn best from their own mistakes when we resist the urge to do a lot of explaining about what they should be learning.
It’s amazing how human beings, once told what they should be learning, resist the lesson. The focus can shift to the power struggle over whether or not they are going to learn what we want them to learn (or not).
Again, the experiment is simple:
1) When you mess up, talk out loud (within range of their ears) about what you learned and how you aspire to do better next time.
2) When they mess up, resist the urge to say “I told you so” and let empathy and the results do most of the teaching.
Safe Environment Training
You must first create a profile in VIRTUS for the Safe Environment Diocesan Program.
Per the Diocese, all school volunteers if they are current on Safe Environment, will have until 7/31/19 to renew through VIRTUS if you do not expire before that date. You need to go on the VIRTUS website and make a profile. You can do this without signing up for a class. Profiles are needed in the new system so we know you have previous training, as the old database is no longer open for viewing.
