Kleb Intermediate
Edition 8: October 3rd, 2021
Hello Bearcub families,
Happy Sunday! We hope that everyone got some rest this weekend as we head into the first week of October. This week is an important academic marker for us as it the final week of Quarter One. It is also a short week for our students as there is a student holiday this Friday and next Monday, October 11th.
In addition to academic growth markers, we are continuing to encourage our Bearcubs to grow behaviorally on campus. Kleb is a PBIS campus, which stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. We have worked with students to develop our campus behavior matrix, which we use as guidance for our students and to set expectations for different areas on campus. Each part of the matrix embodies our campus core values of being a CUB. To incentivize this with students, we use a digital points system through Liveschool, where students can earn points on campus when they are "caught" displaying our Bearcub traits from the matrix. Students can then use those points on campus for rewards such as getting treats from the snack cart, going outside at lunch for recess, raffles for prizes, and more. Our wonderful PTO helps us with supplying some of the rewards and the campus works at having something weekly for our students. A copy of our matrix can be found below along with the parent instructions for logging in to view your student's points. We would like all of our parents to encourage their students through conversation in the upcoming weeks about what it means to be a CUB on campus and how their choices can affect others. At Kleb we take on a village mentality in growing our CUBs and preparing them for the their next steps in life. We appreciate everyone's support.
This week's newsletter contains information about campus events for this week. Thank you to everyone who came out for spirit night at Bruster's last week. It also has some important reminders about chromebooks and an overview of weekly campus activities.
Families, if you have a few moments we would appreciate your feedback on our beginning of the year family survey found below in the parent section, if you did not complete it last week. Kleb is consistently looking for feedback and areas of opportunity where we can grow our campus while striving to maintain our areas of strength. . We will send out another at mid-year and a final one at the end of the year as we continuously evaluate. Thank you so much for your insight!
Finally, make sure to check out the PTO corner for information about memory book bonus week this week, our parent Chili cook-off, and our next upcoming Spirit Night!
We hope that everyone has a wonderful afternoon and as always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff.

District Bus Status Dashboard is Up and Running
In addition to the district's bus status dashboard, we will continue to have our Kleb bus slidedeck available with real time updates. Our Kleb bus slidedeck can be found on our Kleb homepage under Quicklinks found HERE.
The district also rolled out a Bus Status Dashboard and they shared the following information:
- We are building a Bus Status Dashboard, which clearly displays bus routes that are running more than 15 minutes behind normal. This dashboard will be available beginning Monday, August 30, 2021, on our district transportation page or accessed directly at https://kleinisd.net/busupdates. The dashboard will be updated during AM and PM bus routes daily, if there are delays. This will be a temporary solution to notify schools and families of delayed routes until the SMART tag system is fully operational.
- We are working with our SMART tag vendor to launch our bus route monitoring system, which should be launched by early October due to pandemic-caused hardware delays of equipment coming from China. We will continue to update you regarding SMART tag implementation.

Attendance Procedures
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education—to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.
Did you know you can now report an absence in Skyward? Click HERE for more information.
Any student who is absent for the whole day is required to produce one of the following within 5 days of their absence(s):
- Parent Note
- Message through Parent Skyward account
- Original medical note (copies or altered notes will not be accepted)
- Faxed notes must be sent from physician’s office
- Court note
- Official note for observance of approved religious holy days
***If a student is absent for part of the day for a doctor appointment, their absence will be coded as Section 25 (temporary absence) if the student follows the following procedure: The student must return the doctor excuse to the Attendance Office immediately upon returning to school to receive the Section 25 coding for their absence.
If a student does not produce one of the items listed above within the allotted timeframe, that absence will be considered unexcused and counted toward their total semester absences.
Klein ISD takes attendance very seriously, and we want to see your child succeed at Kleb. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please feel free to contact the attendance office at 832-249-5495 or reach out to your assistant principal.
Additional attendance information can be found starting on page 36 of the 20-21 Student Handbook.
