Principal's Message
Welcome Spring!
"Where flowers bloom so does hope."
-Lady Bird Johnson
I hope that this message finds you and yours safe and healthy.
As we welcome spring after what seems like a long winter, my wish for you is that you consider the above quote when you see the flowers blooming around you. Just as the rainbow symbolizes hope and renewal, so too do the flowers that return to us every spring. What is so magical about flowers blooming is that they all at once show us how everything changes, but also return to us like clockwork. Our children are like flowers, growing and changing and blooming every day. At POBMS, we have weathered some fitful storms and made our way to spring.
This spring promises to bring with it much to celebrate. The return of in-person concerts and performances this winter has given us all much to celebrate, and we are confident that as time continues, so will our return to those activities and events that make POBMS a special place.
BACKPACKS!
Beginning on Monday, April 4th we will begin transitioning our students back into the habit of keeping their backpacks in their lockers throughout the day. We have been very flexible with this throughout the year, as many of our students had forgotten how to use their lockers throughout the pandemic. In anticipation of this plan, outlined below, we are asking that you review with your children what locker number they have been assigned and their combinations so that they are prepared.
Locker information can be found in the parent portal on Infinite Campus under the "More" category. After going to "More," choose "Lockers" to find the locker number and combination.
Did You Know?
Our PTA has been hard at work looking for ways to help us be the best we can be! Recently, a survey was sent to our families asking for feedback about our school and our PTA.
Some very helpful information was brought to our attention, and as a result we wanted to share a few important pieces of information:
- If you are looking to translate any of our district or school websites, you can do that by using the Google Translate option at the top of our website.
- We use a translation service so that we can effectively communicate with our students' families, whether in writing, phone, in person or via Google Meet/Zoom.
- We have made wonderful connections and partnerships with various community organizations and local businesses in an effort to ensure that our students have a positive experience at school.
As part of our efforts to reach out to our school community, our PTA is asking that we provide feedback once again. Whether you've already completed the form, or are new to this form, we ask that you take a moment to answer the questions in the form that follows. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we strive to make POBMS the best it can be every single day!
POBMS School of Excellence Survey
**Please complete the School of Excellence Survey by Thursday, April 14, 2022. Thank you!
Updates and Reminders
Appropriate Dress for School: As the weather starts to get warmer, we understand that students' wardrobe may be adjusted at home. Please be reminded that we have air conditioning in all instructional spaces as well as in the cafeteria and auditorium. Having a light sweatshirt in students' lockers is helpful, in case they are cold. Additionally, please be reminded of school appropriate shorts, tops, and footwear as our goal remains to ensure that our school environment is conducive to learning for all.
Cell Phones: Cell phones are to be left in lockers throughout the school day, unless students are given specific instructions by a teacher to bring them to a particular lesson for instructional purposes. We are asking for your support to that end by asking you to refrain from texting/calling your child during the school day.
Dress for Recess: Whenever possible, recess will be outside. Students should dress appropriately as we will be going outside and want to make sure everyone is comfortable.
Covid Test Result Submission: Please use the self-reporting tool found on the school website, or through this link: https://www.pobschools.org/Page/7980

POBMS Student Council Has Been Very Busy!
This year, the Student Council has been very busy!
-STUCO practiced health and safety precautions dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic with high spirits. STUCO helped purchase masks for POBMS staff to wear and represent our school spirit.
-Student council elections were held virtually early this year to elect leaders that will represent the student body.
-To send our gratitude to the Board of Education, our student council members made videos to show how grateful we are during the Board of Education National Appreciation week. Our student videos were showcased at the following Board meeting!
-At the beginning of the year we hosted the Spirit Card Fundraiser with the PTA, where we promoted sales by students earning Lucky Ducks and really cool prizes.
-In November, our students wrote cards to Veterans to honor November 11th. We had conversations revolving around our history.
-During the Fall, Student Council supported the Spelling Bee for all students to be able to participate through the National Scripps digital platform.
-Continuing with our appreciative spirit, we wrote cards during the Thanksgiving Season to staff members that might have felt underappreciated. We sent cards to show how thankful we are to our faculty members here at POBMS.
-In December we held a contest to create a logo for our student council members to feel proud and confident of our hard work as student council leaders. This logo was to start the “year” fresh with something we can relate to for all of our projects this year.
-This Winter as a part of Literacy Week, Student Council was able to fund the author visit with Rob Buyea. It was a really great experience being able to meet with the author of Because of Mr. Terupt!
-In the Spring, student council hosted for a second year in a row a digital event with SO FUN CITY.
-Student council voices were heard in March at the Nutrition Committee meeting reviewing a survey that had been sent to the student body about the meals being served in the cafeteria.
-Recently, students have been working on brainstorming motivational quotes and logos that can be posted on bathroom stalls and mirrors with Cricut designs!
-Student council is proud to have their voices heard through site-based meetings and surveys sent to the student body. Our STUCO members have been working hard to lead those voices and make a change!
