6th Grade News
MATH: In the next few weeks, we will be completing our unit over multiplying and dividing rational numbers and jump right into unit four. In this unit, the students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide negative numbers.
SCIENCE: We just finished our unit over Elements and Compounds. The next unit will be over formation of a new substance. During the week of October 23rd, we will start the unit on metals, nonmetals, and metalloids.
SOCIAL STUDIES: For the next three weeks, the students will be finishing up our North America Unit. Then we will be diving into the diverse world of South America.
7th Grade News
MATH: In math, we will be starting unit three which is the proportion unit. Honors will be working on solving and writing equations and inequalities.
SCIENCE: We are working on the cycling of matter. During the week of October 23rd, we will begin our unit on energy flow.
SOCIAL STUDIES: In Texas History, we will start our studies over the Early Explorers of Texas and continue into Spanish Colonial Texas. When we study the Early Explorers of Texas, we will have an exciting “discovering new lands” project. As we progress through our units, we will continue to work in our interactive notebooks.
8th Grade News
ELA: For the following three weeks in Reading, students will be analyzing poetry through Literature Circles as well as continuing their Fiction studies through independent reading novels and book club novels.
Our Fiction Unit is complete as of October 6th, students grades will be updated. Please look at your students unit assessment grade in Reading. If it is below a 75, please discuss with your student the importance of coming to see me for tutorials before school or during Study Hall so that we can fix misconceptions and/or any errors in thinking. In ELA, students will be studying proper grammar through lessons that tackle students' most persistent problems. We will also increase our creativity and write our own Poetry.MATH: Students are completing unit two on writing, modeling and solving equations. We will be taking a test on Tuesday, October 10th. Students will then move into a mini unit over writing and solving inequalities. After inequalities we will begin unit four over graphing linear equations. Our class is in need of sandwich baggies, if you have any extra boxes please send with your student. Also, please sign up for Remind, the class code is @8thkindle. Daily reminders of homework and upcoming events are sent out through Remind.
SCIENCE: In science class, we are working on the periodic table. We are utilizing the periodic table to recognize and create chemical formulas, chemical equations and reactions.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will begin our American Revolution unit two starting on Monday, October 9th. This unit will take ten days to complete. The students are doing very well in keeping up with the work load at this time.
