INSPIRATIONAL NEWS FROM AROUND OUR DISTRICT
COUNCIL ROCK STUDENT NAMED BUCKS COUNTY POET OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to Council Rock South student Kiley Malloy who was recently named the Bucks County Poet of the Year. The award comes from a county-wide poetry contest for high school students. To enter, students submit up to three original poems that they feel strongly about. Kiley has entered the poetry contest for several consecutive years and was named runner-up in both her sophomore and junior year. Kiley took the top distinction this year for her work entitled for allen ginsberg. Thank you, Kiley, for sharing your award-winning work with our community...
for allen ginsberg
you wiry child
wiry wily boy just awoken
you learned as I will
of jazz, our heroes
and the rhythm of the
old brick buildings, love
or just touch underneath
the saxophone solo; Allen,
I’ve sewed you into the lining
of my best blazer, tucked you
into my breast pocket and
followed you home to the
red New Year’s moon. No
I don’t mean Paterson— I
mean the place you grew into,
where you stood beside A Vision
and all the scarlet ink, typewriter
clicking into early morning. The
place where fresh blood paints
the sidewalk now and circumstance
is the mirror reflecting our
identical words reading
backwards. And
since we are the same,
dear Allen, I hope you’re
praying for me or granting our
wishes, like some sort of holy
body above the Morningside smoke.
