How to Type Properly
By: Kendra Paul
It is Important to...
Good Posture
Make sure that you have good posture. Sit straight and keep your back straight. Keep your elbows bent at a right angle. Face the screen with your head tilted slightly forward. Stay at least 45 - to cm away from the screen.
Finger Placement
Finger placement is key when learning to type. Only hit the indicated keys with the indicated finger. Always return to the start position "ASDF - JKL;"; this will keep you from getting lost. Establish and maintain a rhythm, your keystrokes should come at equal intervals. Holding your fingers at an awkward place may also cause some severe injuries.
Finger Motion
Your finger motion is very important, especially if you want to type fast. If you get lost while typing, don't look at your fingers, just feel around for the anchor keys and continue to type. Try to move your fingers as little as possible. This will improve your typing speed and reduce strain on your hands.
How Can I Type Faster?
Practice!!!
Practice makes perfect. The more you type the faster you will learn the keys and the faster you will type. It is also very important to practice good posture, finger placements, and hand position. Practice often, during short periods instead of long periods.
Accuracy
First be accurate, not fast. Typing fast and not knowing what you are doing will slow you down in the long run because you make a lot of mistakes. Typing at a slow accurate pace may take you, what seems slower but if your accurate you won't have to make up in time for all those mistakes. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
Know Your Keyboard
Knowing your keyboard is probably the most important part of speed typing. The objective is to be able to map your keyboard directly from your mind, not by looking at the keys. Being able to map the keyboard in your mind will result in faster typing. Practicing and accuracy will improve your speed even more.
