A Note from the Principal
BIG NEWS!! It is with great pride that I share that Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School was selected by The Ohio Academy of Science to receive the 2021-2022 Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for the TENTH YEAR! SPB was one of only 45 schools (public and private) across the state of Ohio and only one of two schools on the east side of the Diocese of Cleveland to earn this recognition. This award is presented to Ohio schools, teachers, and students who extend STEM education beyond traditional classroom activities. Saint Paschal Baylon faculty members receiving the award are Mrs. Nancy Dulzer, Miss Felice Ferrante, Mrs. Carrie Hanus, Mrs. Holly Herald, Mrs. Sheila Klepcyk, Miss Kristian Martinson, Mrs. Evamarie Mickol, Mrs. Anna Peko, Mrs. Moira Popelka, Ms. Diane Raguz, and Mrs. Beth Uzzo. A special thank you to our STREAM Team led by Mrs. Hanus who helped to pull together and summarize all of the information for document submission. Our efforts to bring the STEM philosophy to our school has helped our students grow as problem solvers, collaborators, and creators. I am very proud of our staff and our students! Click here to read the press release from The Ohio Academy of Science.
I encourage you to read the letter regarding MAP TESTING that can be found here. You can help your child to be prepared and be at his/her best for standardized testing by doing the following:
- Ensure that he/she gets enough sleep each night.
- Help them start the day with a healthy breakfast each morning.
- Pack a healthy snack for your child to eat during the school day.
- Make sure they bring a filled water bottle to school.
Finally, I am looking for two parent volunteers to be "Picture Day Heroes" on Thursday, September 22 from 8:15 a.m. to approximately 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will assist Lifetouch photographers to make sure students look their best for their pictures, help line up students, etc. If interested, sign up here to be a Picture Day Hero. Thank you in advance!
Peace and blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal

Walk-a-Thon Update & Recess Laps
With more than 80% of the Walkathon Family Packets returned, we have raised nearly $17,000, and are starting to see responses from family and friends contacted via the sponsor letters!
If anyone has forgotten to return their packets, please do so as soon as possible. Contact Melissa Vogley at mvogley9@gmail.com with any questions.
It's that time of year again: Walk-a-thon Recess Laps!
During the next two weeks (9/19-9/30), each student will be given a lap card at lunch recess. They can choose to walk or run laps around the perimeter of the playground. Students choosing to complete laps may wear tennis shoes to school those days. Individual and homeroom laps will be recorded. Depending on the number of laps walked (40 Laps = Gold Medal, 30 Laps = Silver Medal, 20 Laps = Bronze Medal), the students will receive a medal to wear on the day of the Walk-a-thon. Top walkers and homerooms will be recognized on the Walk-a-Thon Wall of Fame. The homeroom with the highest average laps per student will receive the prestigious and sought-after Golden Shoe Award. We need EXTRA PARENTAL SUPPORT to ensure there are not large crowds of excited kids waiting for their cards to be punched. The more volunteers the smoother the process is. Please come as often as you can to help count laps! Here is the sign up link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409044BA8AE2EA7FB6-recess . Contact Grace Powell (powell.gracem@gmail.com) or Julie Seline (juldwyer@yahoo.com) with any questions. Let's go SPB!

Fall Altar Server Training for New & Current Servers
We want you to feel comfortable in this important ministry of service to the church, the altar, and our priests. The first training will be for ALL third graders through eighth-grade current and NEW altar servers. The rest of the weeks will be for only the new servers. New servers may look to the parish website and train with the special Altar Server Training Video, a college project. Here are the dates:
- Tuesday, September 27, 2:35 pm in church
- Tuesday, October 18, 2:35 pm in church
- Tuesday, October 25, 2:35 pm in church
- Tuesday, November 15, 2:35 pm in church.
- INSTALLATION MASS: Sunday, November 20, 10:30 am - be at church at 10:10 for instruction/practice.
After care will be provided free by Father Lane, who is conducting the training with our deans of altar serving. We are grateful to the parents for giving their children this opportunity that so many of us had when we were in grade & high school to serve at the altar of God. For those youth who are not able to make all the practices or any, please let Father Lane know and you may come on the weekends to “shadow” with a current server for “on-the-job training." To register, please contact Kathryn Mailer, Coordinator: katmailer416@gmail.com
Blue Mass-Thursday, September 29 at 9:00 a.m.
Playground Volunteers Needed-Grades 8, 7, 6
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:10 am-12:55 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
Grade 8 families are asked to volunteer in August/September, Grade 7 families in October, and Grade 6 in November.
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 8, Grade 7, Grade 6
